Shaped by volcanoes, glaciers, and tectonic shifting, Iceland and Greenland feel as though they were ripped from the pages of The Lord of the Rings. But this is no work of fiction. Come with us and discover the otherworldly landscapes, ultramodern architecture, and incredible tales of Viking derring-do on this unforgettable saga at the top of the world where you are the main character.

Next, explore the Golden Circle — including Þingvellir National Park, the world-famous Geysir, and the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall — by Super Jeep, then snowmobile across the face of Langjökull, one of Iceland’s largest glaciers. After a tour of the black-sand beaches near Vík and a walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall on the South Shore, the scene shifts to Greenland, where you’ll cross Eriksfjord by boat to Qassiarsuk, where Eric the Red founded the settlement of Brattahlíð. Later, explore the village of Igaliku and walk the ruins of a Viking cathedral before cruising the Qooroq Icefjord to spot icebergs and hear the crack of calving glaciers. Day 1: Reykjavik

Meet your private driver-guide and vehicle for an airport transfer. Before arriving to your hotel, you'll stop at the Viking Museum for a delightful breakfast inspired by old Nordic traditions, and featuring authentic Icelandic culinary staples. Along with your included breakfast, you'll get to visit the museum, which features four different exhibitions - all connected to the Viking age in some way. Discover the history and lifestyle of the Vikings of the North Atlantic, from one thousand years ago. Don’t miss the majestic Viking ship built by Icelandair in 1996, using the same materials and methods as 9th century Vikings. This ship was taken on a journey and sailed to New York in 2000 as a part of the millennial celebration of Leif Erikson’s journey to the New World. Afterward, for your added comfort, your English-speaking guide will help you with your hotel check-in, and take you through your travel documents.

A welcome package with a city map, train tickets (if relevant), and any other touristic information that we deem you may find useful, will be provided to you on your first day in destination.

For a city so heavily steeped in Viking history, the cityscape of Reykjavik is surprisingly modern. The best way to discover the history and culture of Reykjavik is with a constant thread of food and beverage to lead you around the city. Setting out with a private guide, tastings will be provided for you as you set out on a food-themed walking tour through central Reykjavik, where you'll learn a bit of history, see the city's iconic cathedral, and get a taste of traditional Icelandic food all at once. You'll head to a restaurant located directly across from the stunning mid 20th century Hallgrimskirkja Church - the largest in all of Iceland, where you can spot an impressively intimidating sculpture of Leif Erikson, donated by the United States in recognition of the discovery of the New World by Norse explorers from Iceland. Enjoy some traditional fish stew, smoked char and traditional Icelandic flatbread with smoked lamb as a topping. As you wander the city, you'll be treated to some soup with the catch of the day paired with wine or beer, stop at a pub for some dried cod, and if you're adventurous enough, fermented shark with some cumin schnapps to wash it down. End on a sweet note with a stop for some kleina (Icelandic donuts) or cake before returning to your hotel.

Accommodation: Alda Hotel

Situated in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, Alda Hotel (4*) is found on Laugavegur, a premier street in the capital’s vibrant shopping district. Steps away from many museums and restaurants, Alda Hotel is perfectly positioned for your stay in Reykjavik, while its well-situated guestrooms featuring Nordic design and modern amenities offer the perfect blend of both comfort and style. Whether you're turning in for the night after a long day of exploring Iceland's magnificent countryside, or resting in between visiting some the city sights literally just steps away from the property, guests at Alda Hotel can be guaranteed one thing – a thoroughly relaxing sleep.

Day 2: Reykjavik

Discover Iceland’s renowned Golden Circle route today, departing as a small group in a Super Jeep, for an off-the-beaten-track approach to Iceland’s most famous natural wonders. Along with your guide, and no more than 15 other participants, you’ll head out of Reykjavík, setting course through scenic Thingvellir National Park, site of the Viking parliament, and home to over 1,000 years of human history. Take in the brilliance of the picture-perfect Gullfoss Waterfall, and the great Geyser geothermal area, where the reliable Strokkur geyser spouts hot water as high as 100 feet in the air. End your day with a thrilling snowmobiling experience (2 riders per machine) on Langjökull, the second largest glacier in all of Iceland.

Day 3: Reykjavik

Today you’ll embark on a full day tour of Iceland’s picturesque southern coast. Departing from Reykjavik as a small group of no more than 18 other participants, you’ll head east with a knowledgeable guide, along the Ring Road to the south coast, passing over the mountain ranges of Hellisheidi, through bucolic farmlands, and across glacial outwash plains offering ever-changing scenery. Upon reaching the coastal road which runs along the base of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, you’ll begin to make several interesting stops, with only short drives between. You’ll visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where most of the year it is possible to walk behind its falls, and then on to the thundering Skogarfoss falls at Skogar. Further along the coast you’ll visit the Solheimajokull Glacier, which is part of the Myrdalsjokull ice cap. You’ll take a 30 minute walk to reach the edge of the ice and experience this natural wonder up close. Heading a little farther east, you’ll reach Iceland's most southern point, experiencing its rolling surf breaking on black sand beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, and spectacular rock formations. Between May to August these coastal cliffs are inhabited by lively puffin colonies. Throughout your day, you’ll also make additional short photo stops depending on local conditions, at the discretion of the guide.

Day 4: Reykjavik - Narsarsuaq

An included welcome dinner with the group is planned for this evening.

Day 5: Narsarsuaq

You'll have an information meeting with your guide before setting out as a group on an afternoon walking tour of Narsarsuaq. Narsarsuaq and its immediate surroundings in Tunulliarfik Fjord hold incredible significance to Greenland’s history, for the land where Narsarsuaq now stands earned Greenland its name. The Norse Vikings settled in this vicinity many centuries ago and gave Narsarsuaq a name that hints that an Arctic forest covered the large plain. Taking tales of verdant nature in a deep fjord home to their Nordic brethren, the Vikings called this country Greenland.

Enjoy a half-day small group excursion taking you across Eric's Fiord by boat, going ashore at the sheep breeding settlement of Qassiarsuk, situated on the very spot where Eric the Red settled and named his farm "Brattahlið" in the year 985. Visit the ruins of Eric's Farm and Thorhildur's church, the first Christian church on the American continent.

Day 6: Narsarsuaq

Spend the day on a small group adventure as you are taken out into the water by boat through the ice filled Eric's Fjord to Itilleq where you'll get to go ashore next to some of the biggest agricultural fields in South Greenland. Embark on a 2-mile walk to Igaliku - a beautiful village where the ruins of the Vikings' Cathedral and the Bishop's Farm are situated. You'll be treated to lunch, followed by a stroll through the village back to Itilleq where you'll take a boat back to Narsarsuaq.

Day 7: Narsarsuaq - Reykjavik

The Greenland Ice Cap is producing 250 million tons of ice every year as icebergs break off the glaciers. Close to Narsarsuaq, the Qooroq Glacier provides the fjord with beautiful white and blue icebergs. Enjoy a 3 hour small group cruise in between the icebergs and go as close to the calving glacier as possible. As the engine is cut, you can enjoy the ensuing silence and listen out for sounds of creaking ice while you sip on a refreshment.

Before your shared transfer to the airport, your guide will invite you and the group for coffee and a chance to talk about your experiences during your stay in Greenland.

This evening, board your return flight to Reykjavik (Keflavik Airport) via Air Iceland.

Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
