With its fascinating landscapes and unique wildlife, Iceland is a natural draw for parents and kids seeking otherworldly experiences right here on Planet Earth. Where else can you live like a Viking one morning, walk under a waterfall and past burbling geysers another, spot puffins and whales in the wild, and stand inside a glacier? A picturesque walk-in classroom rich with hands-on experiences, Iceland educates while it delights, enlightening kids and adults alike on the power and possibility of nature in a way that never feels like a lecture. Our adventure includes all that and more, including private tours and transfers, unstructured time to explore on your own, knowledgeable guides, and hotels that know what matters most to families.

Begin in Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital, with a picture-perfect family visit to the iconic Blue Lagoon. Later, get an up-close glimpse of the friendly monsters of the deep on a whale-watching tour in the North Atlantic. Next, venture out into the southern lowlands near Selfoss for a guided tour of the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, the famed Geysir, and lunch at a tomato farm. In the Westman Islands, you’ll have the chance to see the world’s largest puffin colonies, the windiest spot in Europe, and even drive through the Herjólfsdalur volcano. Up next: the breathtaking beauty of the UNESCO-protected Þingvellir National Park and a visit with the famous “Rock Troll” near Fossatún before a delicious farm-to-table lunch. We’ve saved one of the coolest experiences for last: an amazing look inside Langjökull, one of Iceland’s largest glaciers, with the help of specially modified glacier vehicles. ... Show More »

Day 2: Reykjavik

Animal lovers rejoice! Step aboard a tour boat at the Reykjavik pier and set out along with a maximum of 60 other wildlife-enthused guests, on a multi-hour whale watching expedition in the waters of the North Atlantic. From April through October, the wildlife in the bay off Reykjavik is at its peak. Minke whales are at their most abundant, along with white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, and the occasional humpback whales. November through March brings its own unique sights, with the with the low lying sun casting a warm glow over the white-capped mountains surrounding the bay. During this period, sightings may once again include Minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbor porpoises, while the occasional orcas (killer whales), fin whales and blue whales have even been spotted. During the course of the cruise, you’re welcome to transition between standing out on the ship’s outdoor deck, and staying warm in the indoor heated lounge, observing the views through large panoramic windows.

Please note, expeditions in nature are always weather dependent, and while there is never any guarantee of specific wildlife sightings, your seasoned crew will do their best to position the boat in the best area for potential sightings on the day of your activity.

Day 3: Reykjavik - Selfoss

After check-out, depart Reykjavik on a full-day transfer to Selfoss, enjoying stops at two of the iconic sites of Iceland's world famous Golden Circle, plus lunch at a local tomato farm and greenhouse. You’ll encounter the magnificent Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s largest and most photogenic waterfalls, with water constantly rushing from a river that’s fed by the melting Langjokull glacier. The upper and lower platforms offer impressive perspectives unique to themselves, so the trek between both is well worth your time. The final pillar of the Golden Circle, discover the great Geyser geothermal area where the dependable Strokkur geyser spouts hot water as high as 100 feet in the air, every 6 minutes or so. Climb up the mountain behind Strokkur for a stunning view out across a valley initially hidden from site. Midday you'll be treated to a lunch experience at the Fridheimar Farm Greenhouse where you'll take part in a small group greenhouse tour and enjoy a meal among the tomato plants. Day 4: Selfoss

Meet your private guide and vehicle, and set out on a full day tour to discover the natural beauty of the the Westman Islands, a small group of islands located 6 miles off Iceland's south coast. Best known for being home to the world's largest puffin colony, and a historic 1973 volcanic eruption which evacuated the islands, there's no shortage of stunning scenery. An hour-long drive along the famed Ring Road through serene south coast landscapes will bring you to the Landeyjahofn ferry terminal, where you'll board a shared ferry for a transfer to Heimay, the largest of the Westman Islands. While here, your guide will bring you around to see the small village on the island, and set out to some of the more picturesque viewpoints. You'll join a group tour to head to Storhofdi, the windiest place in Europe, where you'll discover the island's rich puffin colonies (May to mid-August), admiring these slightly awkward little birds as they congregate playfully and swoop down to the Atlantic waters below. With the group, you'll also get to view the famous Elephant Rock, and even take a drive to the middle of the volcano where the historic 1973 eruption took place. You'll return to Selfoss at the end of your day via the ferry, and the Ring Road with your guide.

On the shores of Thingvallavatn Lake, the park offers dramatic scenery and woodland that changes colors throughout the year, making the area a photographer’s delight. Continue to the historic Efstidalur Farm, and get to know more about the family who has lived there since 1850. Learn of their history while you experience a farm-to-table presentation, savoring an included lunch of Icelandic cuisine made from local ingredients, prepared on site at the farm’s restaurant & ice cream bar. Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
