To the Vikings, they were fires in the sky or the gowns of dancing angels. To scientists, they’re the reaction of charged particles colliding with solar winds in Earth’s upper atmosphere. To all who see them, they are simply fascinating. They are the Northern Lights, a rippling cosmic curtain of ethereal greens and reds that ignite the subarctic sky.

It starts in Akureyri, Iceland’s “second city” and the gateway to the north where, after a refreshing dip in a thermal pool, you’ll get your first glimpse of the Lights come nightfall on a guided tour. Next, take a tour of Mývatn, a volcanic lake, and its gorgeous natural surroundings, including the spectacular Goðafoss waterfall, the unusual lava formations of Dimmuborgir, and other sites. After flying down to Reykjavík, slip into the soothing milky-blue waters of the fabled Blue Lagoon before heading out the next day to explore the wonders of Iceland’s Golden Circle — including both the mighty Geysir and the sublime Gullfoss waterfall — before time relaxing at a local spa and gazing up into the evening sky for another once-in-a-lifetime light show.

Please note: This itinerary only runs during the winter months when the Northern Lights are visible. Please consult with your Destination Expert for more information.

Icelandic folktale tells tales about the angels dancing in heaven, where their dresses were supposed to create these magnificent shapes of light in the sky. Auroras seen near the magnetic pole may be high overhead, but from farther away, they illuminate the northern horizon as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the sun were rising from an unusual direction.  This tour includes transportation and guide.

  • Kimberly M — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Fiona was fabulous and planned a dream vacation for us from start to finish. Our guides and tours were all very personable, knowledgeable, and comfortable. Our drivers were very punctual and professional. Our itinerary and tickets kept us knowing exactly where and when we needed to be somewhere. The weather, food and hotels were amazing. We truly had our dream vacation and now need a beach vacation to recuperate from the fast paced vacation we just returned from! Would recommend your agency to anyone! Thank You!

  • Kyran D — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Our tour expert Rachel Cooke was outstanding! She handled all inquiries and requests with great professionalism and patience. The location of our hotels were optimal for touring and easy access to trains and metro. Tour guides Marion for the Latin Quarter, Frederick the Louvre, Bruno Mont St Michel and Melanie for the beaches of Normandy were all very knowledgeable and delightful to be with!

  • Donna O — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Andrew was an amazing guide starting in Inverness! And Debbie was great for our walking tour in Edinburgh. We could not be happier! We learned so much about Scotland and enjoyed every minute of our trip.

  • Robert Goodby — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was one of the best trips we've ever taken. Everything worked as planned, someone was always waiting to greet us at each transfer point, and the guides in Moscow and St. Petersburg were absolutely first-rate: knowledgeable, friendly, fluent in English, and very helpful. Our conversations with them about Russian life and history were an unexpected bonus to what was already a highly educational and informative itinerary.

  • Peter Stephanos — August 14, 2017 — Europe

Kensington was top notch. Our transfers were always on-time and courteous/professional. When there was a labor strike in Athens, they rescheduled our cancelled ferry and booked us on a flight. We had no idea until they called and said we had been booked on the flight. So helpful that we didn't ever have to stress!

  • Barbara Schulman — August 14, 2017 — Europe

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL trip; Everything was perfectly planned by Kensington; all drivers were professional and the city guides were excellent, educated in the history of their city and enjoyable to be with. Upon hearing that we were artists, one guide even changed her tour to include local artworks that we would not have known about , and we were thrilled. We have never had a tour planned personally for the 2 of us, and were delighted with the results. All contacts with our planner, Jason Susinski, were timely and professional. We will definitely travel with Kensington again.

  • Nancy Silvio — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was my first experience with a totally guided tour. It was wonderful to not have to worry about anything, it was all well planned out. What we did see was wonderful, important and the guides were knowledgeable and kind. When we expressed interest in going bowling in Berlin he made sure we found the best place!! Anything was possible.

  • Durriya E — March 29, 2017 — Europe

This trip was the perfect balance of guidance and independence. Each local guide brought a very personal touch to the tour and were both engaging and informative. Luiz was a pleasure to work with and provided the guidance we needed to create an itinerary that suited our interest and the pace we wanted.

  • Gary J — March 29, 2017 — Europe

We wanted a quality trip for our anniversary; and got more than what we expected. Well planned, well thought organized and well executed. We will definitely use Kensington tours for any trips in the future

  • Pamela P. — March 24, 2017 — Europe

I had never had the desire to visit London. After going, I am so glad I did. Kensington Tours made this once in a lifetime trip one I rate as the best. I have done some extensive traveling and this company made sure every detail was in place.
