Their domains fell long ago, but the reigns of Ancient Greece and Imperial Rome live on today in the imagination of travelers. The Greeks shaped Western civilization, influencing the course of art, politics, philosophy, and the sciences for eons to come. The Romans built their capital into the largest and most influential city in the world through foreign conquest and national pride, leaving behind grand monuments to their empire’s golden age. The classical age lasted for 1,500 years, but you’ll be surprised by just how much of it you can fit into a few days with the help of expert guides. Come with us and make some history of your own.

The journey begins in Athens with a privately guided tour of the city’s sites both modern and ancient — including the white-marble Panathenaic Stadium, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Parthenon atop the Acropolis — before heading to the striking Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion. Next is a day of wonders featuring private tours of Corinth, Epidaurus, and the ruins of Mycenae. Then, the scene shifts to Rome where, following a private tour of the fascinating Roman houses unearthed beneath Palazzo Valentini you’ll walk the Via Sacra from the Forum to the Colosseum, the heart of both the “Eternal City” and the Roman Empire itself. Later, explore Ostia Antica, a once-thriving port home to some of the best-preserved monuments in all of Rome, before touring the Pantheon and Piazza Navona with a private guide. ... Show More »

Meet your private driver and guide at the hotel to visit the archaeological remains of ancient Roman houses uncovered beneath Palazzo Valentini which have been recently placed on permanent display, adding to Rome's already rich historical and artistic heritage. A team of art historians, archaeologists and architects worked on a project to research, restore and put these excavations with results of exceptional significance, revealing an area that was of great importance in Roman times and can help piece together the ancient, medieval and modern topography of Rome. Continue to the Roman Forum, the heart of ancient Rome, where the creation of the Roman civilization is reflected in the vast ensemble of ruins. Day 6: Rome

Meet your private driver & guide at the hotel to drive towards Ostia Antica, an approximate 1 hour drive to start your walking guided tour through this beautiful Archaeological site, once the ancient Roman port. Built in 633 BC, it has always been very important for the Roman Empire as all the goods taken in the various territories conquered by the Romans were arriving there. Walking around the amazingly preserved excavations people feel like going back to those times while admiring the Amphitheatre, the temples, the original mosaics and more. Upon completion of your tour, you will drive back to your hotel. Entrance to Archeological site included.

Meet your guide at the hotel lobby. You will be transferred from the hotel to Trevi Fountain, and from here, the entire tour will be done on foot. You will enjoy walking through the fascinating ancient city of Rome visiting Piazza Navona, originally built as a stadium in the first century for athletic contests and chariot races. It is lined with luxurious cafes and Baroque palaces and is the home to three lavish fountains. It was laid out in the 15th century on the ruins of the stadium. From 1650 to the late 19th century, the square was sometimes flooded in summer and used for aquatic games and staged naval battles. The square still retains its oval shape. An obelisk can also be seen which came from Egypt and was originally in the Circus of Maxentius, but later moved to Piazza Navona. The modern piazza is a lively place, a place where both locals and tourists like to hang out. Artists gather in the square to paint and there are many entertainers and vendors selling souvenirs. You will also visit Rome's Pantheon, the temple of all the gods, which was built between AD 118‐125 by Emperor Hadrian. In the 7th century, it was made into a church by early Christians and now is lined with tombs. The dome is just spectacular inside with its partially open top. The Pantheon is the best preserved building of ancient Rome and today is surrounded by a pleasant and lively piazza. A return transfer to your hotel is provided.

  • Kimberly M — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Fiona was fabulous and planned a dream vacation for us from start to finish. Our guides and tours were all very personable, knowledgeable, and comfortable. Our drivers were very punctual and professional. Our itinerary and tickets kept us knowing exactly where and when we needed to be somewhere. The weather, food and hotels were amazing. We truly had our dream vacation and now need a beach vacation to recuperate from the fast paced vacation we just returned from! Would recommend your agency to anyone! Thank You!

  • Kyran D — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Our tour expert Rachel Cooke was outstanding! She handled all inquiries and requests with great professionalism and patience. The location of our hotels were optimal for touring and easy access to trains and metro. Tour guides Marion for the Latin Quarter, Frederick the Louvre, Bruno Mont St Michel and Melanie for the beaches of Normandy were all very knowledgeable and delightful to be with!

  • Donna O — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Andrew was an amazing guide starting in Inverness! And Debbie was great for our walking tour in Edinburgh. We could not be happier! We learned so much about Scotland and enjoyed every minute of our trip.

  • Robert Goodby — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was one of the best trips we've ever taken. Everything worked as planned, someone was always waiting to greet us at each transfer point, and the guides in Moscow and St. Petersburg were absolutely first-rate: knowledgeable, friendly, fluent in English, and very helpful. Our conversations with them about Russian life and history were an unexpected bonus to what was already a highly educational and informative itinerary.

  • Peter Stephanos — August 14, 2017 — Europe

Kensington was top notch. Our transfers were always on-time and courteous/professional. When there was a labor strike in Athens, they rescheduled our cancelled ferry and booked us on a flight. We had no idea until they called and said we had been booked on the flight. So helpful that we didn't ever have to stress!

  • Barbara Schulman — August 14, 2017 — Europe

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL trip; Everything was perfectly planned by Kensington; all drivers were professional and the city guides were excellent, educated in the history of their city and enjoyable to be with. Upon hearing that we were artists, one guide even changed her tour to include local artworks that we would not have known about , and we were thrilled. We have never had a tour planned personally for the 2 of us, and were delighted with the results. All contacts with our planner, Jason Susinski, were timely and professional. We will definitely travel with Kensington again.

  • Nancy Silvio — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was my first experience with a totally guided tour. It was wonderful to not have to worry about anything, it was all well planned out. What we did see was wonderful, important and the guides were knowledgeable and kind. When we expressed interest in going bowling in Berlin he made sure we found the best place!! Anything was possible.

  • Durriya E — March 29, 2017 — Europe

This trip was the perfect balance of guidance and independence. Each local guide brought a very personal touch to the tour and were both engaging and informative. Luiz was a pleasure to work with and provided the guidance we needed to create an itinerary that suited our interest and the pace we wanted.

  • Gary J — March 29, 2017 — Europe

We wanted a quality trip for our anniversary; and got more than what we expected. Well planned, well thought organized and well executed. We will definitely use Kensington tours for any trips in the future

  • Pamela P. — March 24, 2017 — Europe
