Walk the ramparts of the 13th century Akershus Fortress, medieval residence of the royals with a coastal view. Discover the city’s main street Karl Johans gate, rich with Oslo’s highlights, where you can admire the likes of the 19th century Royal Palace, and see the surrounding 54-acre public green space known as Palace Park. Day 3: Oslo - Flam

For your added comfort, your luggage will be picked up at your hotel in Oslo and safely transferred to your upcoming hotel in Bergen. With luggage being taken care of, you can sit back and enjoy your train journey hassle-free, taking in the breathtaking views along the way.

Take a short, self-guided walking transfer to the Oslo Central Train Station, located two minutes from your hotel.

Transfer from Oslo to Flam today by train, with a connection in Myrdal. The Bergen Railway is a unique experience on Northern Europe's highest-altitude railway line. One of the greatest challenges is the harsh and quickly changing weather. The line is exposed to deep low-pressure centers from the west, which can mean strong winds and heavy snow for part of the year. Keeping the railway open demands great effort and technical expertise. Today, skilled workers, effective equipment, tunnels and snow tunnels make the Bergen Railway one of the safest and most comfortable ways of travelling between Oslo and Bergen. The line is consistently ranked among the top rail experiences in the world. Four stops before the end of the line in Bergen, you'll disembark in Myrdal.

In Myrdal, board a cogwheel train to Flam on the Flam Railway. The scenic 12-mile route between Myrdal and Flam is one of the steepest non-rack railway tracks in the world and provides some of Norway's wildest and most magnificent scenery. On the ride you can see rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls cascade down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains, and mountain farms cling dizzily to sheer slopes. There are also a few spirals along the route which allow trains to rise on a steady curve until it has completed a loop, passing over itself as it gains height, allowing the railway to gain vertical elevation in a relatively short distance.

Take a short, self-guided walking transfer. Hotels in Flam are all located within just a few minutes of the Train Station.

Enjoy an included dinner this evening at Fretheim Hotel. The hotel restaurant, Arven, has a view looking straight toward the fjord, and locally-sourced ingredients is at the heart of its cuisine, which is only natural when some of the best producers of cheese, meat, fruits and vegetables are right outside the door!

Accommodation: Fretheim (4*)

Dating back to the 1870's, Fretheim Hotel is a beautiful white timber building situated in Flam, at the head of a scenic arm of the famous Sognefjord. In the historic wing of the hotel, every effort has been made to preserve the old feel of the hotel – in fact it appears much the same now as when it greeted travelers in the 19th century. All 122 comfortable guestrooms offer views of the hiking trails and mountains surrounding the property, or the beautiful fjord. Dine at the hotel’s restaurant, which prides itself on serving locally grown and raised ingredients, while offering views looking straight towards the fjord. Visit the lobby bar to relax with a cocktail, or visit the coffee bar to enjoy a coffee in the garden.

Visit the town's traditional fish market, a lively and oddly picturesque area where the local catch has been traded for over 800 years. • Susan C. — October 11, 2018 — Europe

Working with Danny S. was a real pleasure. He was lovely, very professional and knowledgeable. Our trip was so enjoyable and stress free. Hotels were perfect, restaurants booked by Kensington were authentic and the food was excellent. The flamenco show was so much fun and the venue was relaxing and intimate. Our guides were prompt, smart and passionate about their country. A really wonderful group of individuals. It was very reassuring to know we always had a person on the ground to call if necessary. This was an A+ trip and we will always have wonderful memories of a beautiful country and it’s warm and welcoming citizens. My heartfelt thanks to Danny and all others who planned a perfect trip on our behalf. We look forward to another trip in 2019!

  • Marilyn K. — September 20, 2018 — Europe

Our guides were knowledgeable and kind beyond expectation, and were extremely amenable to our requests. The tour expert was very patient and knowledgeable as well, and truly had our travel wishes in mind when creating our trip to Poland. It was a wonderful and amazing life changing experience!

  • Irene Y. — September 13, 2018 — Europe

This trip was just what we were looking for, a private tour of England, Scotland and Dublin. Julie C. was awesome! She and I worked together to figure out what my family and I wanted to do. I could have never done it without her! The cars/guides were waiting at the airport for us. Everyone associated with Kensington Tours was so helpful and kind. The location of the 3 hotels, we stayed in, were amazing!! We walked everywhere! Each tour, we were scheduled for, went smoothly, and on time. The tour guides were so smart and informative about the places we went. I didn't stand in one hotel concierge line. My tickets and vouchers were printed out and in hand ahead of time. Julie even researched and scheduled horseback riding in the Dublin Mountains, which they hadn't handled before. What a highlight that was!! This trip was everything I asked for. I will be using Kensington Tours and Julie again!!

  • Lesley M. — September 04, 2018 — Europe

We thoroughly enjoyed our entire trip to Greece. Everything went as planned, our hotels met and exceeded our expectations. The tour guides were all marvelous - knowledgeable, personal, patient, organized and pleasant to be with. And our sunset cruise in Santorini was superb - first class catamaran, crew and their other passengers were great to be with. We met a couple who also were frequent Kensington Tours clients and we all agreed you are our top choice when it comes to travel tours. Thank you for another unforgettable trip!

  • Ronnie B. — May 29, 2018 — Europe

The entire tour was well planed. Jason and our European guides and drivers were wonderful and often went above and beyond what was expected. Everything was flawlessly executed and we would not hesitate to use Kensington again.

  • Priya K. — June 11, 2018 — Europe

Everything went smoothly! From the pickups and drop offs from the airport and the tour guides being prompt. Will definitely be using Kensington for our next Trip!

  • Brooke R — May 14, 2018 — Europe

Kensington did a phenomenal job planning our vacation. The logistics of getting from place to place was incredibly well planned. The tour guides were knowledgeable, fun and tailored our experience based on our interests. Hotel accommodations were incredible and Patrick answering our questions, provided information on several occasions and ensured our that all our requests were met. This was our second trip with Kensington and we will without a doubt utilize their services again!

  • Tracey M. — May 11, 2018 — Europe
