Day 6: Krakow

Krakow, a city wrapped in legend, where time flows differently, and where every moment becomes a moment of history. For centuries Krakow was the capital of Poland, the seat of kings, drawing great scholars and artists from the whole world. It is their talents and imagination we must thank for the city's rich legacy of unique historical relics, which reflect the most important trends in European culture. The renaissance Royal Castle at Wawel, the gothic St Mary's Basilica, the historical trade pavilions of the Cloth Hall, the former separate Jewish city of Kazimierz, and even the Nowa Huta district, absorbed by Krakow together with its socialist-realist, industrial architecture, are all places which make a visit to Krakow extremely worthwhile. Your tour will start at the Market Square, moving on to the Royal Castle at Wawel, the Saint Mary's Church (dating back to 1221 AD, and boasts a 15th century precious altar). Also on this tour you will visit the Collegium Maius with Gothic arcades, built in Renaissance style, that was home to Jagiellonian University, the second oldest university in Central Europe. And finally a visit to Czartoryski Museum collection, which contains Da Vinci and Rembrandt paintings among others. Entrance fees not included.

Wieliczka Salt Mine is a unique attraction and is included in the UNESCO "Human Heritage" List. Dating back to the 13th century, the Mines are a fascinating monument of engineering. The subterranean universe is comprised of over 300 km of galleries hewn in rock and salt deposits. The tour of the Mine includes visits to the beautiful chapels sculpted in salt, spacious chambers, crystal grottoes, and underground ponds, all at the average depth of 250 m below ground level. A considerable level of physical fitness is required as this tour will cover approximately 3.5 kilometers of walking distance and 800 steps along the whole route. The journey begins with a descent down the Danilowicz Shaft to Level I of the mine, situated 64 m underground. The next levels lead even deeper. After a short respite, you will go up to the surface in a mining elevator. Entrance fees are included. (Your private guide will take you to the mine and provide explanations, the actual tour of the mine is a shared experience led by a Wieliczka guide.)

The area is well preserved and currently houses the Holocaust Museum, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 8: Warsaw

Tour Warsaw, Poland’s capital and largest city, seat of the president, government and parliament, the country’s commercial centre. A city with a stormy history, including the march of Napoleon’s army, national uprisings and tsarist repressions, and the Second World War, all had their imprints yet didn't stop its development. Learn about life during the Warsaw Uprising and under communism, about business centres and issues that absorb the attention of Warsaw’s citizens today. Listen to legends from the old times, learn about elections of Polish kings and the secrets of enclosed courtyards of Varsovian houses, uncover the former location of a mausoleum of a Russian tsar, learn what is original housing and what was rebuilt 70 years ago, and find where the Warsaw Pact was signed. The sightseeing route includes a visit to the Royal castle that was the seat of the Mazovian Princes, residence of the Polish kings, seat of the Senate, and the place where the Polish Constitution was signed. The site is a symbol of Polish statehood, where many historic events took place, including the passing of the first Polish constitution on 1791. The castle dates back to the 13th century, though it owes its current shape to the early Baroque period. Sigismund Tower, 60m tall and crowned with a high cupola, dominates over the façade. Entrance fees to the Royal castle included.

Enjoy a private tour of Polish Communism History in the company of a local guide with private transportation. After the Second World War, Warsaw began rebuilding according to socialist realism. It had to be an example of a model city representing their spirit. You will be taken in socialist-style car for a unique trip through the legacy of the Polish socialism. The tour starts from the Constitution Square which was a model residential area for the working class. Next, you will see the Ministry of Agriculture, where you will have a chance to get to know the utopian plans of the post war city reconstruction, Palace of Culture and Science – the symbol of the city as well as the symbol of communism in Poland and the famous blocks of flats from the 60's at Iron Gate Square. The tour will end with a typical Polish aperitif.

  • Sandra S — August 11, 2019 — Europe

Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
