Nestled around the Carpathian Mountains and shrouded in a thick cloak of pine trees and rolling meadows, Romania has steadily transformed itself in recent decades from a dreary Soviet satellite to a dynamic, dramatic, outdoorsy destination that offers endless hiking, rich folk traditions, and Gothic castles aplenty. Separate fact from fiction and learn about the real Vlad the Impaler as opposed to the fictional Count Dracula. This exclusive Explorers Club Collection trip makes the most of Romania’s remarkable landscape and storied past. Our advice: Discover it now before word gets around.

With the help of experienced expert guides, you’ll spend days hiking the scenic hillsides of the Carpathians, keeping watch for deer, foxes, wildcats, and other wildlife while taking in some of the world’s most spectacular views. Take in the sights and sounds of medieval Sibiu and the dozens of small alpine villages you’ll pass through, many of which are watched over by a fortified church or grand clifftop castle. In these rural communities, you’ll have the chance to go horseback riding along forested trails, sample local wines and apple ciders, learn about the region’s long history of honeymaking, and spend the night in a variety of unique places, including Count Kálnoky’s, a retreat at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains in the Transylvanian village of Miklósvár. Visit legendary Bran Castle and chance to climb the 1,500 steps to Poenari Castle, the mountaintop fortress from which Vlad III gazed out across Walachia.

Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
