Day 2: Edinburgh

Meet your private guide at your hotel and depart on foot for a half-day walking tour through Scotland’s hilly capital, Edinburgh, founded over 1,200 years ago. The New Town, co-listed with the Old Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features the famous Princes Street with its ornate 200-foot-high Scott Monument, along with historic Georgian and neo-classical architecture. With a structure-free south side of the street, Princes offers panoramic views back across the scenic Old Town, considered one of the most beautiful skylines in Europe. Stroll the renowned Royal Mile in the UNESCO-listed Old Town, bookended by the 12th century Edinburgh Castle at one end, and the 16th century Holyrood Palace at the other, residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Spot the prominent St Giles’ Cathedral, a religious focal point for nearly 900 years. Pass the National Museum of Scotland, and learn of the city’s hidden subterranean passages running below street level. Visit the iconic Edinburgh Castle, perched on Castle Rock with an imposing stance upon the historic old town below. Stroll the courtyard and learn about the historic royal residence from the outside before leaving your guide while you visit the inside of the castle, where you can see the lavish interiors, and even the Crown Jewels.

A private driver will transfer you to the Prestonfield House this evening, just moments from the Royal Mile, where you'll enjoy an exceptional combination of dinner and entertainment. Be dazzled by traditional Scottish music, costume, bagpipes, fiddles and dance in a magically historic setting, lavishly filled with baroque plaster work, paneling, tapestries, paintings and antique furniture. Prestonfield is described by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine as so extravagant it’s like walking onto the set of some flamboyant costume drama. Your meal will consist of traditional Scottish fare, including a choice of two options for each course, a desert, tea/coffee and a half bottle of wine. Arrive by 6:45pm, with dinner at 7:00 and show from 8:00-10:00pm. Meet your private driver at a pre-determined time for your return transfer to the hotel.

Please note, you must bring along your included dinner & show voucher provided in your Welcome Pack, or you will be required to pay on the spot.

Day 3: Edinburgh

Join a group tour today to celebrate the highlights of Scotland - castles, lochs and whisky! Admire the UNESCO-listed Forth Bridge over the Firth of Forth as you head north from Edinburgh, traveling through Stirlingshire where you'll be regaled with history and lore of the famous warrior William Wallace, dramatized in the film Braveheart. Arriving to the city of Stirling, you'll have an opportunity to see the towering Wallace Monument, overlooking the city below. Stroll the beautiful city streets, and if interested, you'll have time for an optional visit of the remarkable 12th century Stirling Castle, with an imposing view of its own, perched atop Castle Hill. A former Scottish royal residence, it has survived at least 8 different sieges over its period of use. Heading out along the Duke's Pass, you'll have spectacular views to the peaks of the Trossach Mountains, passing some of the country's most stunning lochs, coming to a midday pause at Loch Lomond where you can walk the shores of the largest body of fresh water in the UK. Day 4: Edinburgh - Inverness

Meet your driver for a private train station transfer from your hotel to Edinburgh station.

Depart by train from Edinburgh to Inverness. Approximate travel time is 3.5 hours.

Meet your private driver and vehicle for a train station transfer.

Meet your private guide and delve into the world of the Jacobites, as you depart on foot for a walking tour of Inverness, capital of the Scottish Highlands. The strategic location of Inverness, where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth, has seen it be the stronghold and focus of many battles of kings and clans and tribes dating back at least as early as the 6th century, including a fallback point during the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Enjoy views of the imposing Inverness Castle, overlooking the River Ness, where a succession of castles has stood since 1057. From Bishops Road, see the lovely stonework of the 19th century Inverness Cathedral, but even more impressive still is the 18th century Old High Church on St Michaels Mount, at the heel of the footbridge that crosses the River Ness, a spot of worship since the Celtic times. Stroll the prolific High Street, a buzzing pedestrian area, and just admire the overall city architecture, with many Victorian and Georgian delights.

Accommodation: Kingsmills

Set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, the Kingsmills Hotel is a fabulously historic retreat tucked away just one mile from the city center of Inverness. The hotel, much like its on-site dining, combines the perfect mix of classic and contemporary features. Between the gardens of the historic mansion house, the lavish Kingsclub and Spa, and 134 guestrooms, many with private balconies and patios or views over the neighboring golf course, your relaxation and comfort are always in mind. Take a stroll in the hotel grounds with scarcely a hint that you’re in the middle of the Highland capital. The Kingsmills Hotel offers authentic Scottish hospitality, along with dashes of character and panache, only delivered by genuine hoteliers.

Day 5: Inverness

Meet your private driver for a transfer to the Clansman Harbor, where you'll board the 250-passenger Jacobite Warrior boat for one hour of cruising on the mysterious waters of Loch Ness, enjoying on-board audio bursting with fascinating facts and legends as you sail. During your voyage, you'll also hop ashore for a one-hour visit to explore the historic 13th-16th century ruins of Urquhart Castle and its turbulent past - serving a role in the 14th century Wars of Scottish Independence. Re-board the ship and set sail back to the harbor where your private transfer will take you back to your hotel. Along with the help of an on-board sonar system, be sure to keep your eye out for a potential Nessie spotting as you cruise, the legendary (mythical?) monster that is said to take refuge in the depths of the Loch.

Glasgow is one of the liveliest and most cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. Meet your private guide and depart on foot for a half-day walking tour through Scotland's largest and greatest city, discovering highlights of the city reborn as a center of style and vitality, set against a backdrop of outstanding Victorian architecture. Built in a grid, and divided roughly into three districts: the Financial district, the Retail and Theater district, and Merchant City - the latter two being where you'll primarily spend your time strolling. See the elegant Glasgow City chambers, discover the upmarket Buchanan Street - a shopper's delight, and pass the 19th century Theater Royal, home of the Scottish Opera. Discover the 18th and 19th century mercantile buildings tethered to Merchant Square, now a trendy hub for bars and restaurants, and spot the historic Tolbooth Steeple and clocktower which dominates Glasgow Cross, a relic from 1625. Keep your eye out for the splendor of Scotland's best-known architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose style adorns many unique attractions throughout Glasgow.

  • John C — April 20, 2019 — Europe

Jiri, our driver/guide in Slovenia, really made our trip. He is knowledgeable, flexible, and responsive. Even has a university degree in art history! He connected many of the dots between Slovenia and what has been going on in the rest of Europe over the past centuries!

  • Diana S — May 25, 2019 — Europe

The itinerary was perfect, considering we only had 5 days to fit in this extension of our 22 day Transatlantic Cruise. Hope did a great job in coordinating for us the highlights of Sicily. All the guides and drivers are always helpful and knowledgeable from Kensington. In Agrigento, our guide was an archaeologist who teaches at universities. He had notebooks with diagrams and maps to show us exactly what we were looking at. He answered questions so thoroughly, we felt that we had a tour and a history lesson. It was amazing and the pace of all the tou

  • Kathleen K — May 15, 2019 — Europe

We enjoyed working with Jamie Boar. She was knowledgeable, communicated well, friendly, and professional. We got all we wanted from the personal tours planned and were impressed with the high quality of the guide. We will certainly use Kensington Tours again.

  • Cynthia D — April 20, 2019 — Europe

I found Kensington Tours on Google. At my first visit to the site, I was contacted immediately by Julie Couturier. She made my inquiry seem like we were having coffee, and she just happened to know everything I needed to make me choose her as my representative and travel expert. I was recommended to other tour companies, by friends, but it was Julie that made me realize Kensington was the best choice. We started our discovery in 2018 and because I was traveling with my grandchildren, I wanted to ensure the trip was perfect. We had to make changes as we went along, first because we were able to confirm a suite at the Marriott Grand Residence on Park St. with reward points. Julie was quick to make all the necessary changes in our tours. We felt privileged to have had the tour guides that Julie set for us, each one was so very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour which kept our 13 and 11 years old interested. Julie suggested a play and what child can say the saw “Matilda” in London. We certainly would not have enjoyed our trip as much if we had tried to do this on our own. Julie suggested a visit to Warner Bros Harry Potter and it was worth every moment. I would have never gone there, so congrats again to Julie. She was also able to advise us as to where to purchase groceries for our room, having lived in London previously. I have had many friends travel around the world and I don’t know of one that speaks as highly of their tour company or their travel expert the way my family has. Thank you Kensington Tours and especially Julie.

  • Rena K — April 06, 2019 — Europe

We were extremely impressed with every aspect of our trip. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. Chantal, our Destination Expert, worked with us to make sure that my physical limitations were not a problem. Each guide and driver took such good care of us. They were so knowledgeable and helpful. We plan on booking with Kensington again in the future. The service and amazing itinerary could not have been better. Thank you for memories that will last a lifetime!

  • Clark S. — November 10, 2018 — Europe

We booked a trip to Paris for our 20th Anniversary. The trip was wonderful! We were able to customize our trip with our tour expert, Julie, and our trip was great.

  • David W. — November 21, 2018 — Europe

I absolutely loved our two guides, Robert (Cardiff Walking Tour) and Noel Clawson, our guide throughout our trip. They are two very special people. The tour in Wales was perfect!

  • Wanda P. — October 13, 2018 — Europe

Our entire trip was very well designed to fit our schedule and preferences. The on-site guides and drivers were excellent. They were very professional and friendly. We asked for guides that were knowledgeable of Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and we were very satisfied with both guides. Thank you for making our trip one of the best we have experienced.

  • Patricia M. — October 17, 2018 — Europe

The hotels, guides, transportation, food and city tours of Barcelona, San Sebastián, Bilbao and Madrid were amazing! I would highly recommend the Kensington Culinary Trip to Spain to others.

  • Thomas R. — October 02, 2018 — Europe

We really enjoyed our tour guide in Rome that took us to Vatican City - very friendly and informative.
