Central Europe is heating up, and it’s got nothing to do with the weather. Once the exclusive playgrounds of in-the-know Europeans, Slovenia and Croatia are quickly catching on with savvy travelers from all over the world. And with good reason: Slovenia’s quaint villages, alpine forests, and stunningly beautiful lakes are easy on the eyes, while Croatia’s miles of unspoiled coastline and delectable seafood make the most of the sparkling Adriatic next door. Intimate, laidback, and under-traveled, Croatia and Slovenia are ripe for discovery. All they’re missing is you.

Our tour begins in Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, with a half-day private walking tour that will introduce you to the sites of this beautiful city, including Ljubljana Castle, the Virtual Museum, and the many bridges and buildings designed by architect Jože Plecnik. Next, venture out of the city to the lake regions of Bled and Bohinj to walk mountain trails past waterfalls and alpine lakes and explore the magical Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria on its island in Lake Bled. En route to Rovinj, stroll through the impressive Postojna Cave network and Predjama Castle, perched high atop a hill overlooking the village. Get your first glimpse of the Adriatic along Istrian Peninsula and discover its gastronomy on a tour of Grožnjan, then sample local wines at a private wine tasting en route to Rovinj. Later, visit picturesque Plitvice Lakes National Park (home to truly stunning turquoise lakes) before a private walking tour of Split with stops at Diocletian's Palace (a UNESCO-protected Roman fortress), the centuries-old Cattedrale di San Domino, and the city’s gorgeous waterfront promenade. Last stop: Dubrovnik, where you’ll stop in Ston for oysters, mussels, and wine before taking a private walking tour of the city and a private sunset cruise through the romantic Elaphiti Islands. The adventure ends in the Konavle region, where you’ll get an appreciation for the ancient history that shaped this part of the world and be sent off in style at a welcoming gathering at a family estate near Bakicevo. ... Day 8: Split - Dubrovnik

Meet your driver for a private transfer to Dubrovnik with a stop in Ston with wine, oyster tasting and mussels cooking presentation. Upon arrival to Ston, you will meet your local private guide for a tour of this small town famous for its defensive stone walls, which protected the precious salt pans that contributed to Dubrovnik Republic's wealth. The history of the salt works in Ston is more than 4,000 years. It is the oldest salt mine in Europe, and among the working ones, also the oldest in the world. Your guide will take to visit the salt pans, as well as impressive Ston city walls. Continue to Peljesac Peninsula, also known as Croatia’s Napa Valley, to enjoy a private wine tour at the Milos winery. Quality soil and beneficial Dalmatian sun allow the grapes to produce abundant grape bunches, traditionally used to make Croatia's most renowned wines: "Dingač," "Postup" and "Plavac." Today you will meet the Milos family who grow their own produce and maintain vineyards boasting fantastic wines. Take a tour through the vineyard set on the steep manually farmed terraced land of the Pelješac Peninsula. The vineyards are maintained completely organic, which follows natural winemaking techniques combined with extended aging in large Slavonian oak barrels. This guarantees great elegant wines with an intense expression of the nature of Peljesac (a reflection of the terroir) and Plavac mali cultivar. In Ston, you will enjoy an extraordinary experience – a private tour of Ston oyster farm by a fisherman boat and oyster tasting. Your host, a local oyster farmer, will take you for a boat tour of his oyster farms and explain how the oysters are grown and why these particular oysters from the Mali Ston Bay have been recognized as the best aphrodisiac since the Roman times. During the boat tour, you will have a stop at your host’s private island, where you will be treated to an oyster tasting and traditional Dalmatian dish – "mussels alla buzzara." Relax and enjoy these delicacies under the shade of pine trees. Continue to Dubrovnik.

Day 9: Dubrovnik

This morning meet your local guide for a private walking tour of Dubrovnik, one of the most beautiful stone-built cities in the world.  An important maritime port and a one-time state, it has always been a cultural metropolis. More than a thousand-year history is reflected in every part of the town. As one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Dubrovnik owes its special charm to the historic monuments which testify to its rich history. The works of artists, writers and scientists of Dubrovnik have been woven into the texture of the town.  While strolling with your guide down Stradun, the main street, you will stop to visit the Franciscan monastery of the “Order of Friars Minors” that preserves one of the three oldest pharmacies in Europe. You will continue down to Orlando Column and the Sponza Palace and visit the Church of St. Blasius, the patron-saint of the town. You will also discover Rector’s Palace, the magnificent structure of the dukes of Dubrovnik, and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary with a treasury containing the originals by Tiziano and Rafaelo and many other valuable relicts. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore this stunning town on your own. Dubrovnik is full of charming cafes, boutiques and local curiosities, nestled in the intricate network of the cobblestone streets. We recommend you to take a walk along the city walls (1.5 miles around the old town), visit one of the numerous museums or take a funicular ride to the top of the Mount Srd.

Meet your private driver for a transfer to the port, where you'll embark on a unique and romantic Elaphiti Islands experience this evening! Meet your English-speaking skipper and set out on a private sunset cruise to the Elaphiti Islands where you'll disembark for a delightful dinner (drinks not included) in the romantic setting at Villa Rose Restaurant. The Villa rises on a seaside rock in a deep shadow of pine trees and offers a haven of peace and serenity in one of the most romantic places on the Adriatic Coast.

Day 10: Dubrovnik

This morning meet your guide and driver in the hotel lobby for a private tour of the Dubrovnik Hinterland – the region of Konavle. The region of contrasts and exceptional beauty, mountains and valleys, green hills and naked stone; inclines down to the cozy coves of small fishermen villages. Your first destination is the ancient Mediterranean town of Cavtat. Like many Dalmatian towns, Cavtat began as a Greek settlement, called Epidaurus, and later became a Roman colony. At the beginning of the 7th century, Avars and Slavs invaded Cavtat and destroyed the town. Refugees from the town formed another settlement - Dubrovnik. Since those times, Cavtat has always been inseparably bounded with the history of Dubrovnik. Your guide will take you for a stroll through this picturesque little town – its cobbled streets with traditional red-roofed houses, narrow stairways and charming promenade along the shore. Your walk will take you to the top of the hill, where you will discover the extraordinary Mausoleum of Račić Family, a work of Ivan Meštrović, the most prominent Croatian sculptor. After the walk, you will continue your exploration of the countryside of Konavle. In the village of Čilipi, you will be welcomed by a local family on their humble rural estate of Bakicevo. You will enjoy their hospitality in a unique ambiance of a traditional stone-built house. Your hosts will take you around their garden where they grow various sorts of vegetables in an old-fashioned way. The ingredients that will be used for your lunch today come from their garden. With the alluring scents of the local cuisine, your hosts will prepare the traditional Dalmatian specialty of peka – food prepared under the iron bell, for you. After this delicious lunch, your guide and driver will take you back to your hotel.

Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
