Day 2: Barcelona

Meet your private guide and transportation, and embark on a full-day tour of Barcelona. Learn about famed modernist architect Antoni Gaudí and his extraordinary achievements throughout the city along the way.  Head along the elegant avenue Paseo de Gracia, one of Barcelona's most important shopping and business areas, where you'll find several of the city's most celebrated pieces of architecture, including two of Gaudi’s houses which you'll visit: Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà (known as La Pedrera). Casa Batlló is a surprising building with enigmatic forms, a colorful façade, and refined architectural details. La Pedrera is a sculptured residential building, and a fine example of how the wealthy lived at the beginning of the 20th century. From there, head to Gaudi's iconic Sagrada Familia, where you'll get to visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and monumental masterpiece of architecture - still under construction over 100 years after building commenced. One of Barcelona's must-see sites, it's the largest unfinished Roman Catholic church in the entire world, and its unique style is not to be missed. You'll then admire the 4th century Roman Walls and 13th century Cathedral of Barcelona's old Gothic Quarter, before continuing to the world famous tree-lined pedestrian avenue Las Ramblas, where you can watch Barcelona's bustling local culture come to life. Round out your day with a visit to Parc Guell, in upper Barcelona, enjoying beautiful views out over the city. Built at the start of the 1900's, and though never fully completed before his death, it still remains one of Gaudi's most colorful and imaginative works, and one of the most impressive public parks in the world.

Historically of great importance to both the Christian and Islamic powers in Europe, Cordoba was formerly a capital of the Roman Empire, and later the Umayyad Caliphate. The UNESCO organization recognized the universal importance of Cordoba's historic legacy, and extended the title of World Heritage Site not only to the city's impressive Mosque-Cathedral, but also to all the streets and buildings around it. Enjoy a visit of the Mosque-Cathedral, with sections dating back as far as the 8th century, highly regarded as one of the most accomplished Moorish complexes ever built. Your guide will take you through the flower-lined streets of the Jewish Quarter, where you'll visit the exceptional 14th century medieval Synagogue. Day 7: Cordoba - Seville

Meet your private guide and driver, and set out on a half-day tour to discover the fascinating 10th century Medina Azahara, one of the most important archaeological sites in all of Spain. The history of Medina Azahara, the magnificent, enigmatic palace-city which was built for Abd-ar-Rahman III at the foot of the Sierra Morena mountains, is shrouded in myths and legends. Many believe Abd-ar-Rahman III, after proclaiming himself Caliph in 929 A.D., built the Medina in honor of his favorite wife, Azahara. However, modern archaeologists and researchers believe the true reason was actually one of strategy, trying to position the newly-created independent western Caliphate as one of the strongest, most powerful kingdoms in Medieval Europe. Explore the ancient site with your guide, and see what you think - was it love, or power?

Please note, a short shuttle bus ride is required between your private transfer and the actual archaeological site.

Day 8: Seville

Meet your expert private guide for a Monumental Walking Tour and visit Seville's two most outstanding monuments: Seville Cathedral a Roman Catholic Cathedral and Seville Royal Alcazar a Royal Palace developed by Moorish Muslim Kings. Stroll around Barrio de Santa Cruz, formerly the Jewish quarter and the most picturesque and delightful part of the city, with narrow winding cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, and visit the interiors of Seville´s cathedral and the Royal Alcazar Palaces. The Alcazar is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe and it was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Alcazar houses different palaces of various periods and its gardens, which evoke its Muslim past. The upper levels of the Alcazar are still used by the royal family as the official Seville residence. Seville´s cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world with the largest wooden altar made of Christendom and the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The cathedral stands on the site of the 12th century Great Mosque, of which only the minaret remains. Locally known as “La Giralda”, was converted to the cathedral´s bell tower. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See (Spanish: “Catedral de Santa María de la Sede”), better known as Seville Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Seville. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. It is also the largest cathedral in the world, as the two larger churches, the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida and St Peter's Basilica, are not the seats of bishops. It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Day 11: Granada

Make your way to Alhambra Palace with a private driver, where a local guide will take you on a private tour of this wonderfully picturesque UNESCO World Heritage Site. On a rocky hill, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and within the eldest quarter of the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle, with its distinctive reddish stone in its ramparts which prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty enclosed within. The Alhambra ranks among the world’s finest examples of Islamic art with carved cedar, intermittent stucco work, and gorgeous mosaics. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and the court of Granada in the middle of the 13th century. The complex of monuments is formed by the stunning Moorish palaces, including the Palace of King Charles V, and the Generalife, which is surrounded by orchards, tranquil pools, fountains and beautiful gardens, which you'll also visit.

The medieval town of Granada is host to a number of optional (not included) cultural experiences, ranging from cooking demonstrations, tapas tours, and flamenco shows, to classes where you can learn to speak Spanish, how to paint ceramics, or how to dance in flamenco style. Please speak with your Travel Consultant if any of these are of interest.

He had notebooks with diagrams and maps to show us exactly what we were looking at. He answered questions so thoroughly, we felt that we had a tour and a history lesson. It was amazing and the pace of all the tou

We enjoyed working with Jamie Boar. She was knowledgeable, communicated well, friendly, and professional. We got all we wanted from the personal tours planned and were impressed with the high quality of the guide. We will certainly use Kensington Tours again.

I found Kensington Tours on Google. At my first visit to the site, I was contacted immediately by Julie Couturier. She made my inquiry seem like we were having coffee, and she just happened to know everything I needed to make me choose her as my representative and travel expert. I was recommended to other tour companies, by friends, but it was Julie that made me realize Kensington was the best choice. We started our discovery in 2018 and because I was traveling with my grandchildren, I wanted to ensure the trip was perfect. We had to make changes as we went along, first because we were able to confirm a suite at the Marriott Grand Residence on Park St. with reward points. Julie was quick to make all the necessary changes in our tours. We felt privileged to have had the tour guides that Julie set for us, each one was so very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour which kept our 13 and 11 years old interested. Julie suggested a play and what child can say the saw “Matilda” in London. We certainly would not have enjoyed our trip as much if we had tried to do this on our own. Julie suggested a visit to Warner Bros Harry Potter and it was worth every moment. I would have never gone there, so congrats again to Julie. She was also able to advise us as to where to purchase groceries for our room, having lived in London previously. I have had many friends travel around the world and I don’t know of one that speaks as highly of their tour company or their travel expert the way my family has. Thank you Kensington Tours and especially Julie.

We were extremely impressed with every aspect of our trip. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. Chantal, our Destination Expert, worked with us to make sure that my physical limitations were not a problem. Each guide and driver took such good care of us. They were so knowledgeable and helpful. We plan on booking with Kensington again in the future. The service and amazing itinerary could not have been better. Thank you for memories that will last a lifetime!

I absolutely loved our two guides, Robert (Cardiff Walking Tour) and Noel Clawson, our guide throughout our trip. They are two very special people. The tour in Wales was perfect!

Our entire trip was very well designed to fit our schedule and preferences. The on-site guides and drivers were excellent. They were very professional and friendly. We asked for guides that were knowledgeable of Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and we were very satisfied with both guides. Thank you for making our trip one of the best we have experienced.

The hotels, guides, transportation, food and city tours of Barcelona, San Sebastián, Bilbao and Madrid were amazing! I would highly recommend the Kensington Culinary Trip to Spain to others.
