Day 1: New Orleans

Meet your private driver in baggage claims for a transfer to your hotel. Upon arrival at your hotel, a representative will welcome you, go over your itinerary, and provide assistance with finalizing any details.

Experience the rich history of New Orleans, embarking on a privately-guided walking tour through some of the city's more iconic landmarks and neighborhoods. Led by your knowledgeable historian guide, you'll take a journey back in time while learning about the city's complex and colorful past. Visit St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, the city's oldest above ground cemetery dating back to 1789, where you'll encounter plenty of crypts etched with the names of The Big Easy's most celebrated and notorious, including Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, black activist Homer Plessy, and French Creole nobleman Bernard de Marigny. Next it's on to the city's French Quarter, arguably the heart of New Orleans itself, the boundaries of the legendary district defining the original city in 1718. Learn NOLA's origins as the colonial capital of French Louisiana. Initially the vision of famed French Explorer Jean Batiste Le Moyne, the French Quarter soon housed prisoners and prostitutes from Paris, enslaved Africans from across West Africa, European aristocrats, pirates, Jesuits, and more. This diverse demographic established the Louisiana Creole culture still remembered and celebrated today.

Enjoy front row seats at the acclaimed Preservation Hall with a live performance by their house band tonight. Opened in 1961, Preservation Hall has been at the forefront of the revival of Jazz Music in New Orleans. Now with nightly shows, the venue continues its mission of engaging locals and visitors throughout the year with a music that only New Orleans could cultivate. Big Shot seating guarantees you the best spot in the house and allows you to skip the general admission line.

Day 2: New Orleans

From gumbo and po boys to craw fish and beignets, New Orleans has developed its own unique cuisine inspired from local and affordable ingredients, now popular nationwide. Today, take part in an interactive cooking class with no more than 10 others to prepare a complete dinner. Follow the lead of an expert chef and learn the proper cooking technique, reflecting on the influence each dish has had on New Orleans' culture. At the end of the class, unwind and indulge in your delicious creations.

Explore the grim and ghastly deeds of the old French Quarter, then reward your newfound knowledge with a tasty libation. This privately-guided tour includes entertaining insight into New Orleans' obsession with imbibing. Sample and learn the history of two of the city's famous cocktails or spirits and discover how they're made. Learn of the city's historic resistance to Prohibition and its early connections to alcohol. Along the way you'll learn the secret and sinister events that lead to resident hauntings in some of the French Quarter’s most notable hotels, restaurants, and private residences. Yes, ghosts and spirits are said to still haunt this legendary neighborhood known as Vieux Carré. Discover the tales of their demise that’s left them lingering on site - all the more reason to enjoy a strong drink en-route.

Day 4: New Orleans

This morning, enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel.

Along with your private guide and driver, discover the history of one of the world’s most famous parties, Mardi Gras. As you ride through the city with your own personal historian, witness the construction of Mardi Gras floats and discover the surprising history that’s behind this famous tradition. Marvel at the costumes worn by Kings and Queens of the most famous “krewes” during the parade and see just how much hard goes into each look. Gain insight into a lesser known side of Mardi Gras that pays tribute to African American and Native American relations and combines the two for a unique parade. The remainder of your afternoon will be spent exploring New Orleans Mardis Gras history more in depth at some of the city’s most significant sites. Choose to visit Mardi Gras World for a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation for Mardis Gras. Alternatively, stop at Presbytere Museum to take in the stunning architecture that influenced many of the unique buildings in New Orleans. Another option would be to explore the Backstreet Cultural Museum to gain more knowledge about New Orleans’ African American culture and history. Or opt to cruise down the tree-lined St. Charles Avenue to observe New Orelans’ stately mansions. Conclude your tour with a private transfer back to your hotel.

From classic Creole to modern French Southern fusion, New Orleans' food scene continues to gain well-deserved recognition from culinary experts around the world. Let our Destination Experts help you find the right dining option for your appetite at one of the city's James Beard-recognized restaurants.
