Often referred to as the “Paris of the South,” Buenos Aires – much like its European counterpart – is at once, historic, modern and always lively, while indomitable Iguassu Falls and its myriad cascades dazzle with beauty and power.

On this tailored adventure, set out with a private guide in tow on an exciting and educational journey to learn about the premier buildings and barrios found throughout the Argentinean capital, experience a day on an estancia in the fertile pampas, and discover the awe-inspiring natural wonder that is Iguassu Falls.

It all begins in Buenos Aires, where you’ll visit an array of important sites including Teatro Colon, an incredible opera house widely considered to be one of the best venues in the world, as well as Recoleta, most famous for the great Recoleta Cemetery, resting place for many notable Argentinians, including Eva “Evita” Peron. Later, on a day trip to the countryside, you’re invited to participate in horseback rides, a polo match, or to simply relax as the hours whittle away in this gorgeous section of the country. Back in Buenos Aires, enjoy a morning and afternoon at leisure to explore the city at your own pace, then head out for an evening featuring tango dancers and two of Argentina’s most prized exports: beef and wine.

The scene then shifts to spectacular Iguassu Falls. Here you’ll experience the falls from all angles, taking in the views from both Argentina and Brazil on privately guided tours before hopping on a boat to come tantalizingly close to the Three Musketeers and the iconic Devil’s Throat cascade; expect to get wet! ... Day 1: Buenos Aires

For your added comfort, you will have an English-speaking guide waiting for you outside of Customs with a sign with your name on it. Your representative will help you to co-ordinate meeting up with your private driver and accompany you to your accommodation.

View some of Buenos Aires’ most beautiful public buildings built during the period 1890 and 1930, most originally constructed as homes for wealthy Buenos Aires families. The Museum of Decorative Arts was the former home to the Errazuriz-Alvear Chilean-Argentine family, decorated in eclectic style including neo-Classical, Louis XIV, Rococo and Louis XVI. Circulo Militar, designed in Paris and built in Buenos Aires for the Paz family who owned the La Prensa newspaper, is now used for public and private activities. The French Embassy was owned by the Ortiz Basualdo family until 1939 and the Brazilian Embassy by the Pereda family until 1944. The Vatican Embassy was the home of the Fernandez de Anchorenas—all wonderful examples of French influence in the city’s architecture. The Palacio San Martin—today the Foreign Affairs Ministry—belonged to the Anchorena Family, and the Palacio Estrougamou is now a condominium building. Many others are used now for business and social events, such as the Bencich and Aberg Cobo homes, among others.

Accommodation: Intersur Recoleta

Located in Recoleta on Callao Avenue, the architecture of the Intersur Recoleta reflects the history of one of the most traditional areas of Buenos Aires. Perfectly located, Intersur Recoleta is an artery to all Buenos Aires has to offer: cuisine, art, cultural events and relaxation. Designed to convey the history of the city, reflected throughout by way of unique furnishings and décor, the exceptional style and inviting comfort of Intersur Recoleta allow guests to enjoy the best of this world-class city in style and comfort.

Day 2: Buenos Aires

Most visitors to Buenos Aires are struck by the fact that it has the chic and glamour of a European city, with Paris coming to mind many times. Nowhere is this more palpable than in Palermo and Recoleta, the latter considered to be the perhaps most affluent neighborhood of the city. To understand why, a brief dip into history is required. In the early 20th century, Argentina experienced unprecedented prosperity. Local aristocrats dreamed of competing with Paris, then the cultural center of the world, and decided to display their wealth through the city’s architecture, imitating the splendor of the French capital. See for yourself, after your private guide and driver have collected you from your hotel and start the day at the splendid Plaza San Martin, right in the heart of Buenos Aires. Designed by French landscape architect Carlos Thays, it is surrounded by some of Buenos Aires’ most impressive public buildings. It is easy to imagine the life of the wealthier classes at that time as you are driving along Alvear Avenue, a sort of smaller-scale Champs Elysées up to Recoleta cemetery where generations of the Argentine elite have been buried, including Eva ‘Evita’ Peron. From here you continue your city discovery north to Palermo, lined with colonial mansions and dotted with cafés, restaurants and boutiques and further divided into trendy, creative, chic and cool areas called Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood and Palermo Viejo. Your tour concludes driving down the Avenida 9 de Julio, one of the widest boulevards in the world. On the way your private guide will take you on a tour of the 19th century Teatro Colón. A magnificent building with acoustics that rate it among the top five in the world and an opportunity to marvel at its lavish interior.

Day 3: Buenos Aires

It’s not easy to leave the cosmopolitan flair, architecture, history and night-life of Buenos Aires. But only 60 miles away, you can experience another important aspect of Argentina: a day visit to a real estancia. On this small shared tour, you can play polo, go horseback riding, or simply enjoy a day out in the warmth and comfort of the estancia, not far from the city, yet in the middle of the pampas. It’s a terrific way to spend a day outdoors and enjoy an authentic Argentine barbecue. Following a hotel pick up around 10:00 am and transfer to the estancia, welcome drinks with empanadas will be waiting for you when you arrive at approximately 12:30 pm. An hour or so later, feast on an asado lunch, which is a selection of meat cuts prepared in the traditional Argentinean way and accompanied by a wide choice of salads and potato dishes, as well as alcoholic & nonalcoholic beverages. After lunch, just relaxing under the shade of the trees or in one of the sun lounges by the pool – there’s a towel service and pool bar – might pass the time wonderfully, but you can also go cycling and there are horses for all levels if you wish to go for a ride. A traditional English tea with cakes and scones is served around 5:00 pm, and we will take you back to your hotel around 6:00 pm. Please note: Although you will be privately transferred to and from the estancia alongside an English-speaking guide and professional driver, activities at the estancia may be shared with other guests.

Day 4: Buenos Aires

During your day at leisure consider taking a riverboat to Tigre which lies on the Paraná Delta, English-style rowing clubs, countless marinas, humble dwellings and elegant mansions from the “Belle Époque”, such as the Tigre Club, are to be seen, as well as small pensions and upscale lodges, restaurants, tea-houses and simple picnic sites. If the outdoors are your passion, head out to a nearby "Estancia" where you can  enjoy a BBQ lunch or perhaps a traditional folklore show. Or spend the day in Uruguay visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Colonia del Sacramento. You can even rent a bike and enjoy the sites and sounds of BA at your leisure, from the zoo to the rose garden, it's yours to discover. If you are interested in art, tango, cooking or exploring the cafe culture of Buenos Aires, consider a themed private tour. Just ask your Destination Expert for more details in figuring out the most suitable options for you.

Buenos Aires may well be the best place in the world to catch an exclusive tango show, and the nightly performance at Café de Los Angelitos may well be the best in the city. This evening, enjoy a special night out as you are picked up from your hotel by a private driver and a bilingual guide, then set out to Café de Los Angelitos. After settling at your table, take in an intimate tango performance led by local dancers, all while enjoying a gourmet dinner consisting of grilled local meats, international dishes and excellent Argentinian wines. A sensory experience capturing the essence of Buenos Aires tango and gastro-culture, it is a night you’ll remember for some time.

Day 5: Buenos Aires - Iguazu Falls

A private airport transfer with a professional driver and English-speaking guide is included between your Buenos Aires hotels and domestic airport (or vice versa)

Relax on your direct flight from Buenos Aires to Iguazu Falls. The flight is approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Please note: Flight rates and availability are subject to change until booking and are a separate purchase.

Enjoy a private transfer between the airport and Iguazu with a professional driver and English-speaking guide.

As of July 1st, 2017, all guests visiting Iguazu Falls are required to pay an eco-tax designed to help fund the preservation of the surrounding region. This tax cannot be prepaid, must be paid in cash, and will be collected at your Iguazu Falls hotel upon check-in. This tax applies to all travelers and costs $20 ARS (Argentine Pesos) per person, per night for a maximum of two nights. This tax must be paid for in Argentine Pesos (credit and debit cards are not accepted).

Today, set out on a private-guided tour of the Brazilian side of Iguazú Falls. Meet your guide and professional driver for a short transfer to Foz de Iguazu National Park across the Brazilian border. Please note as you are crossing an international border, you will need both your passport and Brazilian visa on-hand. At the beginning of the foot path, stop for a moment to marvel at the sweeping view. Unlike the Argentinian side, most of the falls on the Brazilian side feel farther away. However, this allows guests to take in a stunning panoramic perspective, perfect for snapping outstanding photos. The walkways on the Brazilian side are short but impactful, giving you the sensation that you are walking on the edge of the waterfalls themselves, looking over the railings into the flowing depths. At the end of the platform, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the Devils Throat. From here, feel the raw and natural power of your incredible surroundings.

Accommodation: Melia Iguazú

The only hotel located inside Iguazú National Park that offers spectacular views of the falls, Melia Iguazú combines a beautiful landscape with friendly service, comfortable style, and great quality. The hotel is within walking distance of some of nature's finest creations, the spectacular Iguazú Falls with its Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Gorge) that you can only get close to from the Argentine side. The hotel offers a wide array of activities as well as incomparable views, and recent renovations include a new front desk, lobby lounge, a terrace that affords outstanding views of the falls, and expansive 150-foot (50-meter) long falls-facing infinity pool.

Day 6: Iguazu Falls

Today you will experience the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls from Misiones, the area which borders Brazil. After being picked up by your English-speaking guide, you will be transferred to Iguassu National Park to board a small intra-park train to the first above-water platforms. Marvel at the scenery as you wind your way along this intricate path system to the imposing “Garganta del Diabo” (in Spanish) or Devil's Throat. This awe-inspiring section of the falls funnels 50 percent of the overall flow into a narrow section, letting out a deep roar and a huge amount of mist. While the Devil’s Throat is closer to the Brazilian side, the Argentinians created an expansive and elevated walkway in order to allow visitors to position themselves right above the action! At the end of the tour you will be returned to your hotel.

This afternoon, get ready for the ultimate Iguassu Falls experience as you enjoy a boat ride that will get you up close and personal with this incredible natural wonder! After a short off-road truck ride through the jungle, descend about 250 steps to a dock to board a small speedboat and start your exciting ride. Zip over rapids through the Iguassu River Canyon and get tantalizingly close to several waterfalls, including the Three Musketeers, the Devil’s Throat and San Martin falls. Hold on to your seats, next you’re headed straight under the falls for a refreshing shower! From there you’ll truly be able to feel the raw, natural power of the thundering water first-hand. Expect to get wet on this one of a kind experience. Dry bags will be provided for your personal belongings (clothes, shoes, phones, cameras etc.) to reduce the risk of damage or loss. Ponchos, jackets, towels or other personal waterproof gear is not provided. It is highly recommended that you bring a change of clothes or waterproof clothing to better enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

  • Patricia M — May 24, 2019 — South America

Overall, we were very pleased with the entire experience. Our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were also amazed as to how well planned the entire trip was and the support we received throughout. For example, the support we received when our flight was delayed was welcomed and greatly appreciated.

  • Lyle I — March 18, 2019 — South America

Brandi went above and beyond our expectations. This was a bucket list trip for us and it was fabulous. Renee, in Peru, was incredibly attentive and caring. Mariela Zamora was an excellent guide and gave us 110% service. We are very impressed with Kensington and all of their people.

  • Robert S — June 11, 2019 — South America

This was the second of what will soon be 3 tours with Kensington. The 1st 2 included 17 people. There is absolutely no aspect of the trips that I can find fault with. All the details were carefully dealt with. All of the people from the office to those "on the ground" were professional and pleasant.

  • Lynn N — February 27, 2019 — South America

Every aspect of our trip to the Galápagos Islands was perfect. Scalesia Lodge and Finch Bay Hotel were both incredible, our excursions were wonderful, our guides were knowledgeable, and our itinerary was planned and executed effortlessly. Best last minute addition: booking a room at the W at the airport in Quito so that we had a comfortable place to nap and relax during our 6-hour layover (especially since our flight back to the States did not depart until 12:45 am).

  • Shelley R — March 24, 2019 — South America

Kensington Tours planned our trip to Patagonia when we went to visit our daughter in Buenos Aries. Everything worked like clockwork. Flights, transfers and excursions were all well planned with excellent companies and were stress-free. The excursions were varied, and the guides were excellent. Hotels were top notch and very comfortable. This is the second time I have used Kensington to plan a vacation, and they really make it easy. I gave them the places we wanted to visit and our interests and they took it from there. I highly recommend Kensington Tours!

  • Carmen S. — January 20, 2019 — South America

Thanks to Kensington Tours we had a fabulous, stress free vacation. The Kensington team (Barbara and Jenny) were extremely helpful in helping us decide on sites to visit and planning our airfares connections and always there to timely answer any questions we had. The guides and drivers were always prompt, knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs and we couldn’t asked for a better trip!

  • Gabriele M. — January 10, 2019 — South America

We had a great time on our trip to Argentina and Chile. The guides were great.

  • Melvin S. — January 31, 2019 — South America

We enjoyed the experience very much. Our guides in Bogota (Sebastian) and Medellin (Maria) were excellent and very appropriate for those experiences and are highly recommended.

  • Caryl M. — January 07, 2019 — South America

Sarah Roberts was a joy to work with. She was helpful, responsive and always had a positive can-do attitude. Just fantastic.

  • Ann V. — November 16, 2018 — South America

It was a trip of a lifetime. Everything worked out perfectly. Thanks so much for all your guidance and help.
