In Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, Latin America’s cultural capitals, you’ll find exquisite architecture, all-night nightlife, and jaw-droppingly beautiful metropolitan environments that are the envy of the world. But between these two urban jewels lies a natural wonder that just might rival them both: Iguazú Falls. This extravagant exploration bookends the beautiful fury of nature with elegant and exciting cities that will appease both the outdoorsy and the urbane in equal measure.

We start in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital and Latin America’s most European city. After getting settled, discover the city’s intriguing array of architectural styles on a private tour that begins in historic Plaza de Mayo (home of the colonial-style Cabildo, the Greek Revival Metropolitan Cathedral, and the grand Casa Rosada) before visiting modern Puerto Madero, the majestic Teatro Colón, and Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of Buenos Aires’ elite. Later, surrender to the stirring rhythm of Argentina’s national dance during a thrilling tango performance over dinner at Rojo Tango. From the capital, the scene shifts south to Iguazú Falls, one of the most breathtaking sights you’ll ever lay eyes on. Explore some of the 275 distinct waterfalls – including the dramatic Devil’s Throat chasm – that comprise this natural wonder from the Argentinian side by boat and on a private tour, then take in the view from the Brazilian side on a privately guided walk before flying east to your next stop: Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s cultural capital has earned its cidade maravilhosa (“marvelous city”) nickname, as you’ll discover on a private tour through its colonial avenues, busy squares, and bustling backstreets, with stops at sites important to its history like historic Portuguese monasteries, the French-influenced Theatro Municipal, the neoclassical Igreja de Nossa Senora da Candelária church, and more. Later, witness the city’s impressive sights – including Praia Vermelha, Copacabana, Arpoador’s white sand, and more – from the sky on a private helicopter tour atop Sugar Loaf Mountain, then step out for a taste of the world-class nightlife at Rio Scenarium, one of the world’s most glamorous bars. Finally, recover from the night before by relaxing on the golden shores of Copacabana and Ipanema before checking out late and heading home. ... Show More »

Day 2: Buenos Aires

Architecturally speaking, Buenos Aires is one of the most fascinating cities in Latin America. Meet your private guide and transportation at your hotel for an exciting and educational journey, allowing you to get a glimpse of the city’s rich history through its buildings. You’ll begin at Plaza de Mayo, where you’ll observe the most conspicuous of Buenos Aires’ Colonial buildings: the Cabildo, a primitive town hall. Admire the neoclassical Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Presidential Palace, known as the Pink House, with its peculiar asymmetrical façade. Finally, we trace the tracks of Monumentalism, a school so dear to Fascism, visible in the Ministry of Economics building. Next you’ll walk across Avenida de Mayo to see the monumental Barolo Palace and Congress. You will then head for Puerto Madero, a cutting-edge urban renovation project initiated in 1991, where you will focus on an area known as ‘Little Manhattan’, which concentrates a handful of state-of-the-art, intelligent buildings created by the greatest Argentine architects, such as César Pelli and Mario Roberto Álvarez. Next, enjoy a guided tour of Teatro Colon, an incredible opera house that is considered to be one of the best venues in the world, then make your way to Plaza San Martin, location of South America’s first skyscraper. Continue to Recoleta, featuring the great Recoleta Cemetery, and a Colonial church built in 1732.

Day 3: Buenos Aires

During your day at leisure consider taking a riverboat to Tigre which lies on the Paraná Delta, English-style rowing clubs, countless marinas, humble dwellings and elegant mansions from the “Belle Époque”, such as the Tigre Club, are to be seen, as well as small pensions and upscale lodges, restaurants, tea-houses and simple picnic sites. If the outdoors are your passion, head out to a nearby "Estancia" where you can  enjoy a BBQ lunch or perhaps a traditional folklore show. Or spend the day in Uruguay visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Colonia del Sacramento. You can even rent a bike and enjoy the sites and sounds of BA at your leisure, from the zoo to the rose garden, it's yours to discover. If you are interested in art, tango, cooking or exploring the cafe culture of Buenos Aires, consider a themed private tour. Just ask your Destination Expert for more details in figuring out the most suitable options for you.

Buenos Aires and tango are nearly synonymous, and no trip to this cosmopolitan gem is complete without catching a show. This evening, enjoy a special night out as you are picked up from your hotel by a private driver and a bilingual guide, then set out to Rojo Tango. After settling at your table, take in a sophisticated performance that showcases the rhythm, emotion and gentle precision require to master this intimate dance. Delivered in a small venue with accented lighting, the costume and hairdo of each performer is accentuated, allowing you to better appreciate the embroideries, designs and attention to detail. Adding to the experience, you’ll enjoy a gourmet meal paired with refreshments, all of which is included. Before long, the evening will wind to an end and you will be returned to your hotel, full in body and spirit.

Day 5: Iguazu Falls

Today you will experience the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls from Misiones, the area which borders Brazil. After being picked up by your English-speaking guide, you will be transferred to Iguassu National Park to board a small intra-park train to the first above-water platforms. Marvel at the scenery as you wind your way along this intricate path system to the imposing “Garganta del Diabo” (in Spanish) or Devil's Throat. This awe-inspiring section of the falls funnels 50 percent of the overall flow into a narrow section, letting out a deep roar and a huge amount of mist. While the Devil’s Throat is closer to the Brazilian side, the Argentinians created an expansive and elevated walkway in order to allow visitors to position themselves right above the action! At the end of the tour you will be returned to your hotel.

This afternoon, get ready for the ultimate Iguassu Falls experience as you enjoy a boat ride that will get you up close and personal with this incredible natural wonder! After a short off-road truck ride through the jungle, descend about 250 steps to a dock to board a small speedboat and start your exciting ride. Zip over rapids through the Iguassu River Canyon and get tantalizingly close to several waterfalls, including the Three Musketeers, the Devil’s Throat and San Martin falls. Hold on to your seats, next you’re headed straight under the falls for a refreshing shower! From there you’ll truly be able to feel the raw, natural power of the thundering water first-hand. Expect to get wet on this one of a kind experience. Dry bags will be provided for your personal belongings (clothes, shoes, phones, cameras etc.) to reduce the risk of damage or loss. Ponchos, jackets, towels or other personal waterproof gear is not provided. It is highly recommended that you bring a change of clothes or waterproof clothing to better enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

Day 6: Iguazu Falls - Foz do Iguaçu - Rio de Janeiro

Today, set out on a private-guided tour of the Brazilian side of Iguazú Falls. Meet your guide and professional driver for a short transfer to Foz de Iguazu National Park across the Brazilian border. Please note as you are crossing an international border, you will need both your passport and Brazilian visa on-hand. At the beginning of the foot path, stop for a moment to marvel at the sweeping view. Unlike the Argentinian side, most of the falls on the Brazilian side feel farther away. However, this allows guests to take in a stunning panoramic perspective, perfect for snapping outstanding photos. The walkways on the Brazilian side are short but impactful, giving you the sensation that you are walking on the edge of the waterfalls themselves, looking over the railings into the flowing depths. At the end of the platform, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the Devils Throat. From here, feel the raw and natural power of your incredible surroundings.

Enjoy a private airport transfer from the Argentine side of Iguazu, to the Brazilian side with a professional driver and an English speaking guide.

Board a flight in Foz do Iguacu with direct service to Rio de Janeiro. Approximate flight time is one hour and 30 minutes. Please note: this is a separate purchase.

On your tour, you will be lead through the colonial avenues, squares and back streets of the city, and your guide will explain the important historical, political and social events that shaped Rio into South America's most exciting city. Focusing on the period or architectural style, fine examples of Baroque constructions would be the "São Bento" and "Santo Antonio" Monasteries, which recall the times when Brazil was a colony of Portugal. The French influence can be seen from buildings that were built as early as the 19th century and examples include the Municipal Theater and the Fine Art museum. The city's cultural and artistic diversity is showcased on various cultural institutions such as the Cultural Centre Bank of Brasil and the Brazil-France House. Some other features of this tour are "Candelária" Church, "Praça XV" and "Arco dos Telles".

Tonight, round-trip car service is included to the Rio de Janeiro restaurant of your choice. Restaurant reservations will be confirmed at time of booking and are subject to availability at Lasai, or others. Dinner is at your own expense.

  • Patricia M — May 24, 2019 — South America

Overall, we were very pleased with the entire experience. Our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were also amazed as to how well planned the entire trip was and the support we received throughout. For example, the support we received when our flight was delayed was welcomed and greatly appreciated.

  • Lyle I — March 18, 2019 — South America

Brandi went above and beyond our expectations. This was a bucket list trip for us and it was fabulous. Renee, in Peru, was incredibly attentive and caring. Mariela Zamora was an excellent guide and gave us 110% service. We are very impressed with Kensington and all of their people.

  • Robert S — June 11, 2019 — South America

This was the second of what will soon be 3 tours with Kensington. The 1st 2 included 17 people. There is absolutely no aspect of the trips that I can find fault with. All the details were carefully dealt with. All of the people from the office to those "on the ground" were professional and pleasant.

  • Lynn N — February 27, 2019 — South America

Every aspect of our trip to the Galápagos Islands was perfect. Scalesia Lodge and Finch Bay Hotel were both incredible, our excursions were wonderful, our guides were knowledgeable, and our itinerary was planned and executed effortlessly. Best last minute addition: booking a room at the W at the airport in Quito so that we had a comfortable place to nap and relax during our 6-hour layover (especially since our flight back to the States did not depart until 12:45 am).

  • Shelley R — March 24, 2019 — South America

Kensington Tours planned our trip to Patagonia when we went to visit our daughter in Buenos Aries. Everything worked like clockwork. Flights, transfers and excursions were all well planned with excellent companies and were stress-free. The excursions were varied, and the guides were excellent. Hotels were top notch and very comfortable. This is the second time I have used Kensington to plan a vacation, and they really make it easy. I gave them the places we wanted to visit and our interests and they took it from there. I highly recommend Kensington Tours!

  • Carmen S. — January 20, 2019 — South America

Thanks to Kensington Tours we had a fabulous, stress free vacation. The Kensington team (Barbara and Jenny) were extremely helpful in helping us decide on sites to visit and planning our airfares connections and always there to timely answer any questions we had. The guides and drivers were always prompt, knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs and we couldn’t asked for a better trip!

  • Gabriele M. — January 10, 2019 — South America

We had a great time on our trip to Argentina and Chile. The guides were great.

  • Melvin S. — January 31, 2019 — South America

We enjoyed the experience very much. Our guides in Bogota (Sebastian) and Medellin (Maria) were excellent and very appropriate for those experiences and are highly recommended.

  • Caryl M. — January 07, 2019 — South America

Sarah Roberts was a joy to work with. She was helpful, responsive and always had a positive can-do attitude. Just fantastic.

  • Ann V. — November 16, 2018 — South America

It was a trip of a lifetime. Everything worked out perfectly. Thanks so much for all your guidance and help.
