More wine awaits later at Clos Apalta, an esteemed hillside wine estate, where you’ll learn about the region’s wares from a viticulturalist before sitting down for a tasting. Day 1: Santiago

Welcome to Chile!

To ensure your comfort, an English-speaking guide will be waiting for you outside of Customs holding a sign with your name on it. This representative will direct you to your awaiting vehicle and driver, and accompany you to your hotel to assist with check-in.

To accommodate your schedule, an early check-in has been arranged at your hotel.

One of the best ways to understand Santiago is to study the city’s historical development. Your tour begins by driving to Santa Lucia Hill, which is called Huelen in the native aboriginal dialect. Santa Lucia Hill was popularized by Spanish conqueror Pedro Valdivia who founded the city and gave it the name Santiago de Nueva Extremadura, in honor of the apostle Santiago, who was the patron Saint of Spain. Next up, you will visit the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), which is the central point of the city's earliest urbanization. Today, the Cathedral, main post office, National Historic Museum and Municipalidad de Santiago (city council) are located around the square. Carrying onward, you will tour through the Pre-Colombino Art Museum where more than three decades have passed since Sergio Larraín García-Moreno and the Municipality of Santiago founded the museum. Wander around in Plaza de la Constitución Square, see La Moneda Government Palace as you discover the fascinating historical milestones of the city from independence to the present day. Before returning to your hotel, you will visit one of the oldest barrios of Santiago: Republica and Concha y Toro.

Day 2: Santiago

Today enjoy by being a Chef for the day, Restaurant El Galeon presents a gastronomic tour that includes shopping, cooking and finally a chance to enjoy your prepared lunch. Start with a presentation of the group at a meeting point “Historic Franciscan Church” in La Recoleta District. You’ll be received by a guide and a chaperone of the restaurant that will be responsible for delivering the history of the places you will be visiting. Begin your grocery shopping in the market Vega Central where you’ll walk through the different posts in search of ingredients to prepare your lunch. Finalizing your shopping in the Vega, then you will continue to the Historic Central Market, where the majority of the local people are dedicated to the marketing of the products of the sea. Afterwards, continue to the restaurant where you will be greeted by the chef & staff and you can enjoy a tasty Pisco Sour drink with your welcoming. After your class, you will begin to get ready for your lunch. Lunch Menu will be presented with the confirmation of each group and will consist of an appetizer, main course, and dessert, accompanied with a glass of wine (red or white) and juice, accompanied with mineral water for members of the group, coffee or after-dinner drinks. At the end of lunch, each member of the group will receive a diploma and a cap of Chef to commemorate your visit to the gastronomic Tour.

Lacking the international recognition that the mouth-watering Novoandina cuisine of Lima or the extravagant asado barbecues of Buenos Aires command, tonight you will discover that the Chilean capital of Santiago deserves a seat at the table of gastronomic excellence. Reservations will be made in advance at the restaurant of your choice, and round-trip transportation in a private vehicle will also be provided. Our Destination Experts top recommendations for fine dining in Santiago include: Borago, Aqui esta Coco, Osaka, and Cuerovaca. Please note: Your meal is not included and will be paid for on location. Reservations are confirmed at the time of booking and are subject to availability.

At night, locals and visitors alike flock to enjoy a live entertainment complemented by the gastronomic offerings available, relishing the warm and cozy atmosphere, made even better by evening performances of either tango, milonga (a group tango), or candombe (a UNESCO recognized heritage dance created and popularized by Afro-Uruguayan slaves in centuries past). Day 8: Montevideo

Colonia del Sacramento is one of Uruguay’s oldest and most visually-striking cities. It’s historic center – declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 – is lined with colonial-era buildings constructed during Portuguese reign, all found along beautiful cobblestone streets that were designed to suit the natural contours of the landscape, giving the district a unique character. Intense warfare between Spain and Portugal throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries cast a pall over the region as both Crowns ceaselessly vied to dominate the region. Despite the constant battles, the historic center was spared. On this private guided walking tour, discover the history – both new and old – of Colonia del Sacramento as you casually saunter through the city, passing landmarks including Calle de los Suspiros (or the Street of Sighs), the Holy Sacrament Church – consecrated in 1680 – the Lighthouse, and a trio of museums that focus on Spanish and Portuguese rule, respectively, and a third that hosts a vibrant range of tiles that have been regionally produced through the centuries. During the tour, you’ll break for a replenishing lunch in the historic quarter when the time is right, and then stroll along the shores of the River Plate where an impressive boardwalk offers the perfect opportunity to snap gorgeous sea-side photos. After a day exploring Colonia del Sacramento, you will be returned to your hotel in Montevideo.

  • Patricia M — May 24, 2019 — South America

Overall, we were very pleased with the entire experience. Our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were also amazed as to how well planned the entire trip was and the support we received throughout. For example, the support we received when our flight was delayed was welcomed and greatly appreciated.

  • Lyle I — March 18, 2019 — South America

Brandi went above and beyond our expectations. This was a bucket list trip for us and it was fabulous. Renee, in Peru, was incredibly attentive and caring. Mariela Zamora was an excellent guide and gave us 110% service. We are very impressed with Kensington and all of their people.

  • Robert S — June 11, 2019 — South America

This was the second of what will soon be 3 tours with Kensington. The 1st 2 included 17 people. There is absolutely no aspect of the trips that I can find fault with. All the details were carefully dealt with. All of the people from the office to those "on the ground" were professional and pleasant.

  • Lynn N — February 27, 2019 — South America

Every aspect of our trip to the Galápagos Islands was perfect. Scalesia Lodge and Finch Bay Hotel were both incredible, our excursions were wonderful, our guides were knowledgeable, and our itinerary was planned and executed effortlessly. Best last minute addition: booking a room at the W at the airport in Quito so that we had a comfortable place to nap and relax during our 6-hour layover (especially since our flight back to the States did not depart until 12:45 am).

  • Shelley R — March 24, 2019 — South America

Kensington Tours planned our trip to Patagonia when we went to visit our daughter in Buenos Aries. Everything worked like clockwork. Flights, transfers and excursions were all well planned with excellent companies and were stress-free. The excursions were varied, and the guides were excellent. Hotels were top notch and very comfortable. This is the second time I have used Kensington to plan a vacation, and they really make it easy. I gave them the places we wanted to visit and our interests and they took it from there. I highly recommend Kensington Tours!

  • Carmen S. — January 20, 2019 — South America

Thanks to Kensington Tours we had a fabulous, stress free vacation. The Kensington team (Barbara and Jenny) were extremely helpful in helping us decide on sites to visit and planning our airfares connections and always there to timely answer any questions we had. The guides and drivers were always prompt, knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs and we couldn’t asked for a better trip!

  • Gabriele M. — January 10, 2019 — South America

We had a great time on our trip to Argentina and Chile. The guides were great.

  • Melvin S. — January 31, 2019 — South America

We enjoyed the experience very much. Our guides in Bogota (Sebastian) and Medellin (Maria) were excellent and very appropriate for those experiences and are highly recommended.
