From the charming colonial streets of Quito to the natural wonders of the Galápagos Islands to a dashing seaside resort, Ecuador should be at the top of every traveler’s to-do list. Come along and see it in style on this upscale adventure that blends discovery with comfort for an experience like no other.

Things kick off in Quito – Ecuador’s capital and cultural heart – with a private tour of the Intiñan Solar Museum, where you’ll learn about how the sun became central to ancient Andean civilizations before sitting down to cocktails and a delicious 12-course tasting menu at URKO Cocina Local. Later, experience the fascinating intersection of cultures that define Quito on a private tour that introduces you to its UNESCO-protected colonial architecture, followed by a tasting of the world’s finest cocoa.

From Quito, the adventure moves south to Guayaquil for a flight to the enchanting Galápagos Islands. With the stylishly appointed M/T Camila as your boutique hotel-at-sea, you’ll spend the next seven nights exploring the wonders of these wildlife-rich islands and their waters. Among the too-many-to-list highlights: penguin-spotting at Sullivan Bay, a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station, the sea-lion and marine iguana colonies of Isla Santa Fé, the rustic charm of Post Office Bay, and so many more. The Galápagos Islands are one of those places every traveler deserves to see at least once in their lives, and there’s no better (or more convenient) way to experience them than by sea.

Back on the mainland, you’ll depart Guayaquil for your next stop, Puerto Lopez’s stunning Tanusas Resort & Spa, in supreme style: aboard a privately chartered helicopter. At this lavish seaside resort, you’ll have the chance to head out into the surf on a private whale-watching expedition, enjoy a special reefside lunch featuring oysters plucked fresh from the ocean, and enjoy a specially prepared feast of Ecuadorian specialties from chef Rodrigo Pacheco. The perfect end to a perfect trip. ... Show More »

Day 2: Quito

Depart on a short trip north of the city to visit latitude 0´0´0´. Here you will also visit the Itiñan museum known as "The Trek of Sun" where you will be guided through the wonderful world of the Andean cosmovision, culture and traditions. Featuring didactic games that demonstrate how the laws of physic dictate the unique events that happen at the middle of the world, this museum reveals the influence that this imaginary line has on agriculture practices, as well as ancient ritualistic events which praised the Sun as the principal divinity. Be sure to bring your camera on this tour, you’ll have an opportunity to take a photograph with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern!

Tonight, experience the 12-course Tasting Menu paired with wine at Urko Cocina Local, a casual and ambient gastro-house that is widely regarded as one of Quito’s top restaurants. Utilizing ingredients from the many unique regions of Ecuador, Urko Cocina Local invites guests to discover a slice of the country’s history and culinary heritage while enjoying masterfully prepared dishes. Reservations will be made in advance, and round-trip transportation in a private vehicle will also be provided. Please note: Reservations are confirmed at the time of booking and are subject to availability.

Day 3: Quito

A city of narrow cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed walls and, rising above, the steeples and cupolas of the city’s many spectacular historic churches, Quito has one of the best-preserved colonial centers in all of South America, and its integrity was assured in 1978 when the United Nations declared it a World Cultural Heritage Site. In the morning, join your private guide and walk through the city's Main Plaza where you will see the Government Palace, the spectacular gilded church of La Compañía, and some of the most important churches built through the 16th and 17th centuries, including the San Francisco Monastery. You’ll then visit La Ronda, the city’s famous colonial street to learn about traditional jobs in colonial Quito. The final stop on your tour through the historic core will be Panecillo, a hill that divides Quito between north and south. Here you will be able to admire the famous statue Our Lady of the Panecillo, built by Bernardo de Legarda, while taking in spectacular views of the city. After a break for lunch at Tianguez (included), found near Plaza San Francisco, enjoy a chocolate sampling experience, starting with a guided tour that explains the history of cocoa in Ecuador, followed by a tasting. Ecuador’s unique equatorial climate provides the perfect environment for growing the world’s finest cocoa - Cacao Arriba. Cocoa has been revered in Latin America for over 5,000 years, and Spanish explorers treasured it so much they dubbed it the ‘Food of the Gods’ which you’ll learn about at Republica del Cacao, an ambitious company that aims to produce the most authentic chocolate while developing sustainable fine cocoa production practices. After a day of discovery, you will be returned to your hotel.

Day 4: Quito - Galapagos - Baltra Island - Santiago Island - Galapagos Cruise

You will be privately transferred to Quito Airport alongside a professional driver and an English-speaking guide.

Board a flight in Quito with direct service to Baltra Airport in the Galapagos Islands. Approximate flight duration is two hours.

All guests visiting the Galapagos Islands are required to have medical travel insurance. Proof of insurance is required upon entry to the Galapagos Islands, and your insurance policy must be valid for the duration of your stay. Medical Travel Insurance can be purchased through Kensington Tours or independently. Please speak to your Destination Expert for more information.

The mandatory Galapagos tourist transit card is included in your itinerary.

The mandatory Galapagos National Park entrance fee is included in your itinerary.

Please Note: All Galapagos excursions are to be referenced as a guideline only - the route and program are subject to change according to National Park policies and regulations, weather conditions, seasonal changes, safety precautions and estimated wildlife encounters, etc. A fuel surcharge is applicable to all vessels cruising in the Galapagos and all flights to and from the Galapagos. These surcharges have been included in your trip price. Fuel Surcharges are subject to change without notice and additional fees may be applicable at time of travel.

Welcome to the Galapagos Islands and aboard the M/T Camila. Your guide and crew will greet you at the Baltra Airport and bring you to your accommodations upon arrival. Afterwards, the guide and cruise manager will hold a short briefing to detail all safety and emergency protocols, different areas of the vessel and the cruise schedule.

Take some time to get settled in to your stateroom and to explore the ship. Your expedition will begin shortly.

Found on the eastern coast of Santiago Island is Sullivan Bay. A region created as the result of pyroclastic activity believed to have occurred in 1897, much of the area is comprised of a rippled lava field that you will have a chance to explore. Because the rocks are black and formed of lava, they retain heat very well and as a result can get quite hot. Appropriate footwear is required for this visit in order to protect your feet.

Accommodation: M/T Camila (7N)

Discover the Galapagos Islands in unparalleled luxury aboard the newly minted M/T Camila, a trimaran vessel featuring eight unique staterooms. With space for just 16 guests, this exclusive ship offers a range of sailings designed to ensure an enjoyable, informative and comprehensive experience while exploring the Galapagos. Each stateroom is outfitted with a private balcony and bathroom to enhance your private enjoyment, and the Camila’s ten staff members are always available to address your every need while aboard. Kayaks, snorkel gear, wet-suits and use of the ships Jacuzzi are available throughout your journey, and delicious meals are made fresh daily to round out the experience. For an unforgettable exploration of the Galapagos Islands, look no further than the M/T Camila.

Day 5: Isabela Island - Fernandina Island - Galapagos Cruise

Isabela Island is the largest of all the Galapagos Islands and is famously known as the island shaped as a seahorse. While in the panga making your way to Isabela Island, keep an eye out for the magnificent mola-mola sunfish, and if you so choose, consider spending some time to snorkel in the area as it is host to an incredible array of tropical marine life.

Between the Bolivar Channel dividing Isabela and Fernandina Islands lies Espinosa Point. The highlight of this visit is the nesting colony of the Flightless Cormorant, which over time lost its ability to fly due to evolutionary changes, enabling the species to swim better and faster. Also seen at this site is the incredible remnants of solid magma, but watch your step for the many marine iguanas known to crowd the area.

Day 6: Isabela Island - Galapagos Cruise

If you like historic remnants, then you will enjoy finding what was left behind from pirates and sailors in the 1800’s at Tagus Cove. This site was one of their preferred pit stops while traveling the seas. The hike here will provide incredible views of the cove and also take you to the other side of the mangrove forest where the last 35 pairs of mangrove finches thrive.

Millions of years ago, Urbina Bay lay on the ocean floor. Through the millennia, volcanic uplifts caused it to rise and now it is occupied by sea lions, land iguanas and flightless cormorants. It is a great place to enjoy some free time on the beach, however, your naturalist guide can suggest a hiking course if you so desire.

Day 7: Isabela Island - Galapagos Cruise

On the eastern coast of Isabela Island is Elizabeth Bay, which is characterized by its many islets. These parts are visited by panga, bringing you close to the rocky shores where Galapagos penguins can be seen. There is also a large abundance of marine life that can be seen in the crystal clear waters, making it an ideal location for both panga-based observations and snorkeling.

The beautiful rocky shores of Moreno Point are host to an incredible array of bird-life. It is truly a birders paradise. The main attraction are the coastal lagoons where white-tipped sharks can be seen, as well as panoramic views of Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes.

Day 8: Santa Cruz Island - Galapagos Cruise

The Charles Darwin Research Station is one of the Galapagos Island’s most important visitor sites. It is a research facility that has an extensive collection of Galapagos plant life specimens carefully preserved and also acts as a biological research station and active breeding center operated by the Charles Darwin Foundation. Today, visit this famed research center while exploring Santa Cruz Island.

The highlands are located in the northern part of Santa Cruz and can reach elevations up to 4,920 feet. This area is rich with hills, ferns, volcanoes and wildlife. A great contrast to the molten lava, hardened beaches and rocky areas of islands already seen. It is home to giant tortoises, mockingbirds, finches and many other species.

Day 9: Santa Cruz Island - Plaza Islands - Galapagos Cruise

Santa Fe Island is home to the endemic Santa Fe iguana. The island was created by a volcanic uplift centuries ago, and now hosts a forest of Opuntia and Palo Santo trees. It is a picturesque island with two different trails, one leading to a scenic viewpoint and the other leading to a small beach.

This small island with steep cliffs was also formed by rising lava. It is home to one of the largest sea lion colonies, as well as colorful land iguanas. The most characteristic plant on the island is the Sesuvium that turns bright red during the dry season, creating a contrast on the island. The amazing colors of the turquoise waters against the black lava create a setting for amazing photography opportunities.

Day 10: Floreana Island - Galapagos Cruise

Before arriving at Floreana Island, ask your Cruise Manager for a complimentary postcard while aboard the M/T Camila and then write a message and address it home. Leave it in the mail barrel on Floreana Island – used in past times by pirates and sailors. While you’re on the island, see if there are any other postcards you can take home with you to send for fellow travelers who have already left their messages!

Just off of Floreana Island is a fantastic snorkeling site known as Devil’s Crown. Various tropical fish species can be seen, as well as – with luck – Galapagos sharks or white-tipped sharks. Sea lions can be seen hunting for fish or playing through schools of hundreds of fish in circles, it is really quite the sight to see. Cormorant Point on Floreana Island is a great place to spot flamingos living in salt water lagoons. Walking along the trail past the lagoon, discover a hidden beach that is great for walking in soft sands. Watch your feet if walking in the water, stingrays love to hang out here as well!

Day 11: San Cristobal Island - Galapagos - Guayaquil - Puerto Lopez

Set out to visit the Interpretation Center before returning to your cabin to collect your belongings. After a fantastic voyage through the Galapagos, the crew of the M/T Camila will bid you farewell ahead of your transfer to the airport.

Board a flight in the Galapagos with direct service to Guayaquil. Approximate flight duration is two hours.

Travel from Guayaquil to Tanusas Resort & Spa in style, boarding a privately chartered helicopter which will then take to the air and whisk you away to Tanusas Resort & Spa, found near Puerto Lopez. En route, soar high above the coastal landscape, taking in spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Ecuadorian shoreline. Approximate flight duration is 30 minutes.

Accommodation: Tanusas Resort and Spa

Tanusas Resort and Spa and its surrounding villas are situated directly on the beach, looking out over the stunning Pacific Ocean. Tanusas Resort and Spa offers comfortable rooms in the main house overlooking the ocean as well as individual rooms and spacious villas around the property, all nestled amongst the lush surroundings with their own private pool and unique views. Day 12: Puerto Lopez

Located directly in the migratory path of humpback whales, Tanusas Resort & Spa offers excellent whale watching expeditions from July to October. Today, set out on a privately guided expedition to observe these gentle giants as they swim, jump and feed. A popular spot for calf sightings, lucky guests may spot a pod of humpbacks with newborns in tow. After a few hours on the ocean, you will be returned to Tanusas Resort & Spa. Between November and June this tour does not operate, however, a range of alternatives are offered including expeditions to nearby Isla de la Plata, bicycle riding, snorkeling adventures and surfing, among other options.

This evening, settle in for an exclusive dining experience featuring the delights of Tanusas Resort & Spa Head Chef Rodrigo Pacheco. • Patricia M — May 24, 2019 — South America

Overall, we were very pleased with the entire experience. Our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were also amazed as to how well planned the entire trip was and the support we received throughout. For example, the support we received when our flight was delayed was welcomed and greatly appreciated.

  • Lyle I — March 18, 2019 — South America

Brandi went above and beyond our expectations. This was a bucket list trip for us and it was fabulous. Renee, in Peru, was incredibly attentive and caring. Mariela Zamora was an excellent guide and gave us 110% service. We are very impressed with Kensington and all of their people.

  • Robert S — June 11, 2019 — South America

This was the second of what will soon be 3 tours with Kensington. The 1st 2 included 17 people. There is absolutely no aspect of the trips that I can find fault with. All the details were carefully dealt with. All of the people from the office to those "on the ground" were professional and pleasant.

  • Lynn N — February 27, 2019 — South America

Every aspect of our trip to the Galápagos Islands was perfect. Scalesia Lodge and Finch Bay Hotel were both incredible, our excursions were wonderful, our guides were knowledgeable, and our itinerary was planned and executed effortlessly. Best last minute addition: booking a room at the W at the airport in Quito so that we had a comfortable place to nap and relax during our 6-hour layover (especially since our flight back to the States did not depart until 12:45 am).

  • Shelley R — March 24, 2019 — South America

Kensington Tours planned our trip to Patagonia when we went to visit our daughter in Buenos Aries. Everything worked like clockwork. Flights, transfers and excursions were all well planned with excellent companies and were stress-free. The excursions were varied, and the guides were excellent. Hotels were top notch and very comfortable. This is the second time I have used Kensington to plan a vacation, and they really make it easy. I gave them the places we wanted to visit and our interests and they took it from there. I highly recommend Kensington Tours!

  • Carmen S. — January 20, 2019 — South America

Thanks to Kensington Tours we had a fabulous, stress free vacation. The Kensington team (Barbara and Jenny) were extremely helpful in helping us decide on sites to visit and planning our airfares connections and always there to timely answer any questions we had. The guides and drivers were always prompt, knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs and we couldn’t asked for a better trip!

  • Gabriele M. — January 10, 2019 — South America

We had a great time on our trip to Argentina and Chile. The guides were great.

  • Melvin S. — January 31, 2019 — South America

We enjoyed the experience very much. Our guides in Bogota (Sebastian) and Medellin (Maria) were excellent and very appropriate for those experiences and are highly recommended.

  • Caryl M. — January 07, 2019 — South America

Sarah Roberts was a joy to work with. She was helpful, responsive and always had a positive can-do attitude. Just fantastic.

  • Ann V. — November 16, 2018 — South America

It was a trip of a lifetime. Everything worked out perfectly. Thanks so much for all your guidance and help.
