History & Highlights of the Capital
Departing from your hotel with a private guide and vehicle, embark on a tour of Reykjavik to uncover the city's most fascinating sights. Catch beautiful views of Reykjavik's landmark mountain, Mt. Esja, most visible from the northern waterfront. Admire the stark and modern City Hall, standing proudly on the shore of Reykjavik's small central lake, Lake Tjornin. Spot the 19th-century Althingi, home to the world's oldest parliament, and see the stark white Hofdi House, built in 1909, location for the historic 1986 summit which effectively marked the end of the Cold War. You'll visit the iconic Hallgrimskirkja Church - the largest in all of Iceland. This mid-20th-century cathedral is Reykjavik's main landmark structure, its peak visible from almost everywhere in the city. Out front, you can spot an impressively intimidating sculpture of Leif Erikson, donated by the United States in recognition of the discovery of the New World by Norse explorers from Iceland. Your tour will also include a visit to one of Reykjavik's celebrated museums: the National Museum, displaying objects that provide insight into Icelandic cultural history. Time permitting, you'll have the option of visiting the Asmundarsafn Sculpture Museum, featuring works by celebrated artist Asmundur Sveinsson.
With so many options to choose from, deciding on a restaurant during your day can prove challenging in any foreign city. To assist, you’ll receive a supplemental composition within your final trip documents, showcasing our top restaurant suggestions for dining in Reykjavik, as recommended by Kensington Tours Destination Experts.

Icons of Iceland
No first trip to Iceland would be complete without experiencing the country’s most famed touring route, the Golden Circle. Join a group of fellow adventurers and depart Reykjavik, pausing at the most picturesque natural sites Iceland has to offer. Your first stop is mossy Thingvellir National Park, site of the Viking parliament, home to over 1,000 years of human history. The park offers dramatic scenery and woodland that changes colors throughout the year, making the area a photographer’s delight. Then, stretch your legs with an easy hike to the beautiful Oxararfoss waterfall, one of the very few human-made waterfalls in Iceland. Continue on to Efstidalur dairy farm, boasting incredible views of Mount Hekla. The chance to interact with Icelandic cows, horses and dogs make this family farm a great place to stop. Discover the great Geyser geothermal area where the dependable Strokkur geyser spouts hot water as high as 100 feet in the air. Right after, encounter the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls), one of Iceland’s largest and most photogenic waterfalls, with water constantly rushing from a river fed by the melting Langjokull glacier. Stop for lunch (not included) at Fridheimar tomato farm before making your final stop at Kerid crater lake. The lake features intense pristine waters inside a 3.000 years old caldera. This unforgettable day offers plenty of stunning natural wonders and enough photo stops to remember them forever.

Journey along the Ring Road to the south coast, passing over the Hellisheidi mountain range, through bucolic farmlands and across glacial outwash plains offering ever-changing scenery. Visit the ever-popular Seljalandsfoss waterfall where, and if conditions allow, you'll walk behind the waterfall’s curtain before paying a visit to its nearby cousin Gljufrabui, found hidden from view in the mountainside. Next, you’ll make a stop at one of Iceland's scenic vistas as you view the majestic Skogafoss waterfall. Standing at an impressive 60 meters, its thunderous cascade promises an unforgettable spectacle of nature's power and beauty. Continue on to the charming coastal village of VÍk, the most southern town in Iceland. From here, journey towards Iceland‘s most famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara, where the roaring Atlantic Ocean fiercely hits the shore.
