The list of splendid edifices you can see also includes Circulo Militar, designed in Paris and built in Buenos Aires for the Paz family who owned the La Prensa newspaper, the French Embassy, owned by the Ortiz Basualdo family until 1939 and the Brazilian Embassy, owned by the Pereda family until 1944. Today's walk sheds plenty of light into how sublime architecture transformed Buenos Aires into the most European of Latin American cities.

La Boca's history was largely shaped by immigrants who established themselves within this gritty port-side barrio. A working-class district, La Boca has jealously guarded its identity, of which soccer and tango are major ingredients. What will strike you immediately is the peculiar architecture, especially along Caminito Street, which in 1959 was declared an outdoor museum. It is the work of one of Argentina’s most famous painters and neighborhood philanthropists, Quinquela MartÍn. He gathered neighbors to paint the houses, made out of tin and scrap metal, in bright colors, emulating the early immigrants. The most recognizable icon, though, is La Bombonera (the Chocolate Box), right in the heart of the area and home of the Boca Juniors, the country’s largest soccer club.

Buenos Aires may well be the best place in the world to catch an exclusive tango show, and the nightly performance at CafÉ de Los Angelitos may well be the best in the city. This evening, enjoy a special night out as you are picked up from your hotel by a private driver and a bilingual guide, setting out for CafÉ de Los Angelitos. Colonia del Sacramento is one of Uruguay’s oldest and most visually-striking cities. It’s historic center – declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 – is lined with colonial-era buildings constructed during Portuguese reign, all found along beautiful cobblestone streets that were designed to suit the natural contours of the landscape, giving the district a unique character. Intense warfare between Spain and Portugal throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries cast a pall over the region as both Crowns ceaselessly vied to dominate the region. Despite the constant battles, the historic center was spared. On this private guided walking tour, discover the history – both new and old – of Colonia del Sacramento as you casually saunter through the city, passing landmarks including Calle de los Suspiros (or the Street of Sighs), the Holy Sacrament Church – consecrated in 1680 – the Lighthouse, and a trio of museums that focus on Spanish and Portuguese rule, respectively, and a third that hosts a vibrant range of tiles that have been regionally produced through the centuries. After undergoing years of renovation, the area has been transformed from an abandoned, dilapidated barrio into the city’s go-to location for lively entertainment in the evening and is also host to Mercado del Puerto, a popular and sprawling marketplace where you’ll find some of the best and freshest Uruguayan food and beverages in the country. Originally a walled port, the fortifications of Montevideo were torn down in 1829, however, the Gateway of the Citadel is still standing near Plaza Independencia. In Plaza Independencia, Montevideo’s most historic park, you’ll discover the historic Solis Theatre as well as the impressive Palacio Salvo. After exploring the historic center of Montevideo, take the time to enjoy a fantastic lunch at Mercado del Puerto (included) and then sit back and relax as you are returned to your accommodations.

Today, set out to appreciate the fine wines of Uruguay by visiting two of the country’s premier vineyards: Bodega Bouza and Juanico Winery. Your first stop, Bodega Bouza, is a family-owned and operated winery that produces some of the finest wines in the region. All grapes are manually harvested, matured for six to 18 months in American and French oak barrels, bottled unfiltered and allowed to rest for an additional six to 12 months under strictly controlled conditions. The result: some of the tastiest, most widely-celebrated vino in Uruguay. Today, you’ll explore the vineyard with a resident oenologist, enjoy tastings of select productions, and settle in for an excellent lunch at the on-site restaurant which features a range of Uruguayan staples, seafood specialties and vegetarian options. Shortly after lunch you will return to your private vehicle and begin the trip to Juanico Winery, found north of Montevideo. One of Uruguay’s finest vineyards, it just so happens to be the country’s largest. Nestled in the bucolic Uruguayan countryside, the winery was built sometime around 1830 and in subsequent years was modernized while retaining its original charm and character. The result is an outstanding winery where the latest technologies work in harmony with time-honored traditions to produce some of the country’s most celebrated wines. On this private-guided tour, walk through a selection of the vineyard, explore the winery, its antique structure and underground cellar. Toward the end of the experience, settle in for an exclusive wine tasting experience. After a day discovering two contrasting wineries, you will be returned to your hotel in Montevideo.

After being pickup from your hotel in Montevideo, your private driver will head east for approximately two hours to reach Punta del Este. Upon arrival to Punta del Este, visit the upscale neighborhoods of Beverly Hills, Cantagril and San Rafael, admiring the incredible landscapes, then visit La Barra del Maldonado, a popular and historic fishing town. With colorful houses and pristine beaches, this is one of Punta del Este's must-see areas. Next, visit Playa Brava, located on the eastern side of the peninsula. See the beach’s famous 'Fingers' sculpture protruding from the sand and watch surfers out on the waves. Later you’ll head to the other side of the peninsula to see Playa Mansa, another beautiful beach. After enjoying the views in Playa Mansa, you will have free time for lunch (included) and then head to Casapueblo. This famous Mediterranean-style villa and art gallery is located right on the waters edge and was designed by Uruguayan painter and sculpture Carlos PÁez VilarÓ. Visit the museum and gallery inside the building and learn about the life of the famous artist and the history behind this incredible masterpiece. After a day exploring Punta del Este, you'll will be transferred to your hotel.

Cabo Polonio is a special type of paradise. For nature lovers who seek quiet and calm, there are few places like it. Though this secluded region has seen a scattering of small homes pop-up in recent years – most completely ‘off-the-grid’ and without electricity or plumbing – this protected cape is still among the most pristine and least-visited in Uruguay. Strictly regulated, you’ll begin the day by meeting your private driver and English-speaking guide at your hotel, then make the transfer to the entrance of Cabo Polonio National Park where you will disembark and wait to board a 4x4 truck operated by the park system. After boarding the truck – a lumbering, hulking giant – with other visitors to the region, you and your guide will travel approximately four miles (six kilometers) to reach the beach. As the area is without electricity, the rhythm of the region and of its inhabitants is set by sunlight, while its geographic location – positioned opposite three small islands known as La Encantada, El Islote and La Rasa – provides the ideal conditions for certain creatures; as a result, a large colony of sea lions is permanently found here. With few restrictions regarding human interaction, this is an opportunity to see these playful animals up close. Often times, a pack of wolves can be seen roaming the countryside. Cold in the winter months and very hot in the summer, the ideal season to visit Cabo Polonio is in the spring when temperatures are more moderate. In the small town, handicrafts are available for purchase, however, it is the wide and warm beaches that make this area a must-visit during your time in Uruguay. As there are very few restaurants in the area, please consider bringing a snacks or sandwiches with you to ensure you can fully enjoy the experience. After a few hours exploring Cabo Polonio, join your guide for the return transfer to the entrance of the park where your vehicle and driver will be waiting to return you to your hotel.

Spend the day at leisure in Punta del Este. Choose to relax beach-side, or explore the colonial architecture of this coastal town. Important monuments include the famous "Fingers of Punta del Este" and the Punta del Este Lighthouse. You can also spend time strolling through local markets or visiting some of the Roman Catholic or Jewish churches in the area. The day is yours!
