Depart Accra on your way to Elmina, visit Assin Manso, the site of the “last bath” where slaves were taken for bathing before being shipped to the new world. It is also the burial place of two former slaves whose remains were returned to Ghana from the US and Jamaica.

Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans. It was the final link in the slavery route from northern Ghana and was known to have been the largest slave market for the merchant supplying slaves on the forts and castles on the coast. The site includes visit to the Ancestral Graveyard, DONKOR NSUO, ”the slave river” and The Memorial Wall of Return where most Africans write their names on the wall indicating they have found their root.

This tour takes approx. 6 hours including transfer, but can take more time depending on how long you spend at Assin Manso and stops made along the way.

You will also visit the St. Joseph’s Minor Basilica, which was the first Roman Catholic Church established in the country.

Today transfer from Elmina to Accra. Your journey takes you through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving rainforests. A sprawling and lush sanctuary, Kakum is home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species, as well as countless butterflies. Explore this tropical wonderland with your guide. One of the most thrilling attractions of Kakum is the famous Canopy walkway, which is made up of a collection of bridges hanging 100 feet above the forest floor. Whether you choose to stay on the ground or venture up to the canopy walkway, Kakum promises an unforgettable encounter with West Africa’s exotic fauna and flora. Following your visit to the park continue towards Accra. The approximate duration of today’s transfer is six hours and 30 minutes.
