ST. JOHN'S

See the Signature Sights in Style
Legacy and legend come to life as you discover historic St. John's and its captivating surroundings with your private driver-guide, venturing out to Cape Spear to experience the most easterly point in North America. Your adventure begins atop Signal Hill, where the 19th-century Cabot Tower stands proudly, offering sweeping vistas of the rugged coastline and the vast Atlantic Ocean beyond. Here, amidst the echoes of John Cabot's 15th-century voyage to Newfoundland, you'll marvel at the breathtaking scenery that has inspired generations. Continue your exploration as you wander through a cliffside WWII gun battery, where clusters of cannons stand as silent witnesses to the island's military history. Journey to Cape Spear, and walk out along the most easterly point in North America, where the province's oldest standing lighthouse offers a picturesque beacon steeped in maritime lore. Keep an eye out for native seasonal wildlife, such as seabirds, soaring gracefully overhead, adding to the natural splendor of the landscape. Visit Petty Harbour, a charming fishing town and one of the oldest European settlements in North America. Later, venture into the picturesque fishing village of Quidi Vidi Village, followed by a stroll amidst the colorful Jelly Bean Row houses in downtown St. John's, creating a charming backdrop as you explore its quaint streets. Explore Government House and the Roman Catholic Basilica, symbols of the city's rich religious heritage dating back to 1699. Finally, immerse yourself in the bustling downtown core before returning to your hotel, with a myriad of shops and restaurants inviting exploration and delight.
Make your way over to Christian's Pub on iconic George Street where you'll partake in the quintessential local tradition known as the Screech-In where you'll be inducted as an honorary Newfoundlander. Led by a local officiant celebrated for screeching-in notable figures like Anthony Bourdain and the Toronto Maple Leafs, this memorable ceremony will put you at the very heart of Newfoundland culture. To earn your honorary status, you'll take on a series of challenges that embody the spirit of Newfoundland, from mastering old Newfoundland English sayings to tasting a slice of Newfie steak and kissing a codfish. The culmination of these challenges is a courageous shot of Screech Rum, sealing your newfound status as an honorary Newfoundlander. Once the ceremony concludes, you'll proudly carry the esteemed title of Newfoundlander throughout your stay, forever connected to the vibrant heritage and spirited essence of this extraordinary region.

A Change of Scenery
Embark on a full-day transfer to Trinity with your private driver-guide, exploring the many historic and picturesque outport communities that grace the shores of Conception Bay along the way. Here, amidst the stunning coastal landscapes, you'll discover a myriad of narratives that span centuries, from ancient pirates and daring WWII submarine attacks to the establishment of North America’s first European colony. Heading southwest from St. John’s, you’ll visit Holyrood, an old fishing town at the bottom of the bay, the modern embodiment of a 17th-century English settlement raised by the French during King William’s War. From there, delve into the intriguing history of the Wreck of SS Charcot, a former whaling ship, and other shipwrecks in Conception Harbour. Continuing your journey, you'll explore the historic town of Cupids, beckoning with its rich history and natural wonders. Cupids boasts the distinction of being the first English colony in Canada and the second in North America, established by John Guy in 1610. Its legacy spans centuries, drawing explorers and adventurers from far and wide. Next, wander the charming streets of Brigus, known for its well-kept old-style architecture, rustic stone walls, lush green gardens, and winding narrow lanes, a testament to its English, Irish, and Welsh heritage. In Bonavista, immerse yourself in its rich history as you explore restored landmarks such as the ‘Ryan Premises,’ a beacon of the town’s maritime heritage. Further explore Dungeon Provincial Park, a UNESCO Geosite offering a spectacular sight to behold. Here, on what looks to be a regular grassy bluff overlooking the ocean, lies a massive, heart-shaped crater with two separate openings to the sea. From the viewing area, you can witness ocean waves crashing in; the same waves that for millennia carved out this breathtaking sea cave, eventually collapsing to form a natural archway. This awe-inspiring sight is known as the Dungeon. Conclude with a return transfer to your accommodation.
