Cross an Item off the Bucket List
Meet your private guide at your hotel and depart on foot for a half-day walking tour through Scotland’s hilly capital, Edinburgh, founded over 1,200 years ago. You'll also explore New Town, co-listed with the Old Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which features the famous Princes Street with its ornate 200-foot-high Scott Monument, along with historic Georgian and neo-classical architecture. Stroll the renowned Royal Mile in Old Town, book-ended by the 12th-century Edinburgh Castle at one end, and the 16th-century Holyrood Palace at the other, residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Spot the prominent St Giles’ Cathedral, a religious focal point for nearly 900 years. Pass the National Museum of Scotland and learn of the city’s hidden subterranean passages running below street level. Visit the iconic Edinburgh Castle, perched on Castle Rock with an imposing stance upon the historic old town below. Stroll the courtyard and learn about the historic royal residence from the outside before leaving your guide while you visit the inside of the castle, where you can see the lavish interiors, and even the Crown Jewels.
Enjoy an evening of spectacle at the annual Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Set against the stunning backdrop of the floodlit esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, performers from every corner of the globe come together with the finest modern production technology, exhibiting awe-inspiring precision and prowess in music and dance, along with a brilliant display of fireworks. The action-packed program will feature exciting contributions from the Massed Bands of His Majesty's Royal Marines, Highland Dancing, the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and the stirring music of the world-famous Massed Pipes and Drums, in addition to many others. A huge audience favorite is once again expected to be the traditional and poignant close of the evening's proceedings when the Lone Piper high on the Castle ramparts plays a haunting lament, before the colorful, cosmopolitan cast march off the Esplanade to the strains of famous pipe melody, The Black Bear. Share the experience of the Tattoo's glittering array of talent as part of a sold-out nightly audience of 8,800 ticketed spectators.
Please note that no transport is allowed up to the castle on these evenings so you will need to be able to walk unaided to the venue.
