Discover landmark highlights like San Jeronimo College - founded in 1501, the 16th century Hospital of the Catholic Kings, the 18th century Raxoi Palace - home to the City Hall, and Obradoiro Square, location of the famed Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. To make the most of your experience here, you'll visit the monumental 11th century Cathedral with VIP treatment as you're led around privately by a prior of the sanctuary who will reveal to you all of the secrets of the fascinating tradition of the Botafumeiro. This spectacular smoke ritual is generally only performed once a month, but today, a special exception will be made based on your presence, with the entire cathedral and its visitors being treated to the Botafumeiro ceremony. You'll begin by exploring the distinctly spectacular region of Galicia, an autonomous community who speak their own language. Enjoy Galicia's striking landscapes, its rugged coastline and inland, its lush green terrain speckled with age-old vineyards and stone villages. Much of the environment has been untouched and bares a striking resemblance to Scotland - their unique cultural identify is founded in their Celtic heritage - with the added benefit of warmer weather, and terrific food and wine. Learn about the regions famous local wine, Albarino, a variety of white wine grape which is family produced and cultivated only in small quantities. Visit an old winery and discover their fresh whites before continuing on for a lunch by the port in Sanxenxo, a famous village which the old King of Spain used as a retreat. At the restaurant, you'll be served an authentic mariscada, a dish native to Portugal and North Spain consisting of an assorted tray of shellfish, paired with albarino wine.
