Sights and Insights
This morning, step into the history of Valletta on this private walking tour with your expert guide, exploring the UNESCO-listed capital and bringing its stories to life. Wander through charming cobblestone streets, taking in the vibrant colors of limestone buildings and the lively hum of Republic Street. Admire the intricate gold leaf and marble interiors of St John’s Co-Cathedral, a masterpiece of 17th century Baroque architecture, and hear tales of the knights who once shaped the island. On select days, explore the Manoel Theater, commissioned in 1731, where echoes of operas and theatrical performances linger in its grand halls. Continue to the Grandmaster’s Palace to see the Palace Armory, a stunning collection of medieval weapons and artifacts revealing Malta’s strategic past. Discover ancient treasures at the National Museum of Archaeology, tracing Malta’s history from the Neolithic to Phoenician periods. Conclude with a visit to the National Library before returning to your hotel.
Let the evening unfold at an easy pace with a stroll to Upper Barrakka Gardens, one of Valletta’s most captivating viewpoints. As the sun begins to dip, the Grand Harbour glows in warm shades of gold and amber, with the fortifications, domes, and waterfronts of the Three Cities catching the last light of day. Pause along the stone balustrades as church bells echo across the harbour and boats drift quietly below, then continue along Valletta’s historic bastioned walls, where wide promenades and lantern-lit streets invite a leisurely wander. As evening settles in, honey-colored limestone faÇades soften under the lights, balconies glow, cafÉs murmur with conversation, and the faint scent of the sea lingers in the air.

VALLETTA TO MDINA

Meet your private driver and vehicle for a transfer to Mdina. Approximate travel time is 15 minutes.
Meet your private guide and set out on foot to discover Mdina, The Silent City, and adjacent Rabat. With human settlement dating back to as far as 2500 BCE, Mdina, Malta's former capital, is situated on a hilltop in the central part of the island. One of Europe's finest examples of an ancient walled city, Mdina exhibits an extraordinary mix of medieval and baroque architecture. Surrounded by medieval fortifications, your walking tour lies within, where you'll spot the baroque Mdina Gate, and numerous historic noble palaces which line the city's narrow, shaded streets. You'll visit the early 18th century Mdina Cathedral, admiring its frescoed interior. Metaphorically considered the mother of all Maltese cathedrals, Mdina Cathedral is the seat of the Maltese Archbishop, and its dome and belfries dominate the city skyline. After strolling through Mdina, continue outside the walls to adjacent Rabat, which also features characteristic winding, narrow streets. Like Mdina, Rabat played a major role in Malta's past and is a prime source of its cultural heritage. According to tradition, the Apostle St. Paul is said to have shipwrecked on the island around 60 AD and subsequently opted to reside for three months inside a cave in Rabat known as Fuori le Mura, now known as St. Paul's Grotto. Meander Rabat's winding streets, and admire the Basilica of St. Paul, built above the historic grotto. Conclude on arrival back to your hotel.

It’s All Ancient History
Meet your private driver and guide for a half-day tour of the UNESCO-listed megalithic temple complex of Hagar-Qim and Mnajdra. The temple of Hagar-Qim, excavated for the first time in 1839, dates between 3600-3200 BCE, and is considered one of the oldest religious sites on Earth. Discover its stone remains which stand on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Filfla. The site has produced a number of interesting archaeological finds, notably a decorated pillar altar, two table altars, and some statues displayed at Valletta's National Museum of Archaeology. A quarter mile closer to the cliff face lies the second remarkable temple site that you'll visit, known as Mnajdra. Set in a hollow above the southern cliffs, Mnajdra is probably the most atmospheric of all Malta’s temples. It's a complex site consisting of three temples overlooking an oval forecourt, the oldest of which dates to the same time period as Hagar-Qim. The most impressive of the Mnajdra temples is the third, with its largely intact facade and bench, constructed between 3150–2500 BCE. After exploring the site, continue to the nearby Dingli Cliffs, the highest point of the Maltese Islands at 830 feet above sea-level, offering breathtaking views overlooking the small terraced fields below, the open sea, and the small island of Filfla. The cliffs can be seen as natural forts, since no attacker can approach the island from the West given their impressive height. Conclude with a transfer back to your hotel.
