Departing with your private guide and vehicle, you'll head out for a tour of the village of Longyearbyen, with a modest population of 2,000, and its legendary coal mines. Of the seven original mines started in and around 1906, there is only one remaining mine that is still producing coal for use in Norway’s singular coal-powered power plant. As for the other six mines, upon entry you get the feeling that they are still in operation because of how the miners who worked there left everything as is when the mines were shut down. You'll be met in the lobby this morning by your private basecamp guide, who will take you through the details of your upcoming journey, such as possible routes and the equipment needed, you'll suit up with the provided warm clothing and climb aboard your snowmobile. Following a quick tutorial regarding the operation of these machines, you'll set out across the Arctic snow into the wilderness towards Kapp Linne and the Isfjord Radio Hotel. Enjoy an expedition lunch surrounded by the arctic silence and vast white landscape, and before evening you will have arrived at your remote boutique hotel, the last frontier before Greenland.

Along with your private expedition guide, you'll set out on snowmobiles into the beautiful landscape of Spitsbergen. Your route will be selected by your guide based on the weather and snow conditions. If the weather is good, you'll head south toward the Fritjof Glacier, named after renowned Arctic explorer Fritjof Nansen, and have an expedition lunch served out in the field. If you're lucky, you may even spot the King of the Arctic, the polar bear, hunt for seals on the ice. You'll return to the Isfjord Radio Hotel in the afternoon with some time to relax before dinner.

Check out from the Isfjord Radio Hotel, and depart by snowmobile back to Longyearbyen. Your exact route will be selected by your private guide, based on the conditions of the day. If the weather is favorable, you'll make a stop en route in the Russian settlement of Barentsburg, a small mining city with only about 350 residents. You’ll go ashore and take a tour around town, getting a sense for life in an isolated arctic village before a light lunch is served in the local brewery. You'll arrive in Longyearbyen during the afternoon for check-in.
