A Journey Back in Time
The first city to be established by the Spaniards on the Pacific coast, Panama City is the perfect place to trace back the history of the Spanish Conquest in the Americas. From this first settlement established back in 1519 many famous explorers, including Francisco Pizarro, left to conquer other empires. Follow in their footsteps as you discover the highlights of old Panama with a private guide. Begin in Panama Viejo, the original location of the capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the old walls of Casas Reales, take in the austere ruins of the Cathedral and learn about the life in the old capital from your guide. Proceed to Casco Antiguo, where the city was moved after the original capital was attacked by the infamous pirate Henry Morgan. Both of these cities, at different points in history, became the starting points of the Cruces Trail – the route which the Spanish conquistadores used to transfer their treasures across the Isthmus. Learn about the history of the Spanish settlement as your guide narrates your visit to these World Heritage Sites. Continue to the colonial part of the city and further immerse yourself in the fascinating stories of old Panama. Your tour concludes with a private transfer back to your accommodation.
